12 Months of Jamie
I’ve been very remiss in getting online and updating my journal, or keeping in touch with all my old friends at all this year, so I thought I would write a little year-in-review to let you all know what I’ve been up to. I miss you all :)
Last year I took the winter off of work at Cravens Nursery where I was working in the office. I told the owners that I just wanted time to focus on school (yeah, like it’s been so hard taking like 4 years to get my Associates - don’t even talk to me about my BA lol). But it’s really because they wouldn’t pay me enough. December was really boring.
January, Alex went to El Salvador for a month which SUCKED. Lara and I watched a lot of movies. And I hung out with Lars a lot (I miss you girl!). We cut Lara’s hair into a mohawk, and went to a lot of concerts. My parents did something unforgivable which I am still not over. I was not about January at all.
February Alex starting working at this construction company. I got a job at a temp agency which was really boring. The owners at Cravens were so mad I wasn’t coming back full time they offered to pay me $13/hr and make me the Office Manager. Now I’m coming up on my third year at this job and I’ll be making $17/hr in a few months so it’s all good. I love the owners here, they’ve come to love me like their daughter and they’re just like a second family for me. <3
March and April are crazy busy at work so I don’t remember doing much else but working. And going to classes. Alex left the construction job and came back to work here. It was more money, but he was the foreman in charge of the grounds and all the crews and he really hated it. Dumbass :P My mom had gallbladder surgery and did what she’s best at… laying around, taking massive amounts of painkillers and making my family do everything for her.
May my friend Pam and I surprised Alex and her boyfriend Carlos with a trip to Ocean City. It was terrible (well, mostly). We will never speak of it again…
In June I had my period for two months and some crazy infection in my left ovary. It was no fun at all. June was Alex’s and my anniversary and I got him tickets to see Eminem and 50 Cent in August. It was an awesome concert - one of the designers from work was there with his brother and it was a blast. Also in June Oscar and I drove up to Pennsylvania for Larsye’s graduation, and Jan was visiting from Canada and it was so awesome. Everyone else got stoned and camped outside, but being the princess I am, I slept inside with the air conditioning. :P
July I went on a cruise with my whole father’s side of the family for my grandparent’s 50th Anniversary. It was kind of lonely because I wasn’t there with anyone my age, but I totally had a blast. I actually got a tan! (Well, a tan for me.) We went to Progresso, Mexico in the Yucatan, and saw some Mayan ruins. Then we went to Cozumel, Mexico and went snorkeling and drove beach buggies around the entire island. Then we went to Belize and my uncle and I did this 2 hour hike in the jungle and then went cave tubing. Plus lots of clubbing with my aunt and all the other fun stuff you do on a cruise. I must have eaten my weight in free food 10x over. It was amazing.
August, Alex went to LA with his sister for a few days. He also quit his job here at the nursery at went back to the construction job. Then the owner here said he would give him a raise so now he works both places, crazy bastard… Fall semester started. I think that was about it. No actually in July and August I was bleeding again. Fun, fun. My mom had knee surgery and got a new puppy. Again, lots of laying around and painkillers. Then I stayed at their house and watched their other dog while they were at the beach, and my dad had to push her around in a wheelchair all over the boardwalk with the dog barking in her lap lol.
September 11 was my 18th birthday! Alex and I went to NYC for the weekend and it was perfect! Great weather, and I got to do everything I wanted. Alex had never been there before, I didn’t think he would like it but he got into it. IT. WAS. AMAZING. I didn’t get carded for cigarettes until October, I was so pissed. “Don’t you want to see my ID? No? But you checked everyone else’s ID!!”
In September we moved to Fairfax. It’s been really great not having any roommates, just us two because, let’s face it, no one else has been able to put up with me. The rent is fucking ridiculous though. Maybe this year I can finally afford internet at home. :P
ALSO September 30 was Alex’s 24th birthday and we had a massive party. It was the best party ever. Alex's friends made the best food. One guy got drunk and passed out so we drew on his face, but then he threw up on the carpet so I got what was coming to me. Yeah, people are still talking about it haha.
October… was whatever. Alex’s sister (she lives about an hour past Fredericksburg) stayed with us for a while because her fiance is a psycho. We told her she should leave him because he’s a total freak, she could have stayed with us and I could have gotten her a job helping me out at the nursery, but one day while we were at work she called her boyfriend and he came and took her home. Poor girl.
We didn’t get ANY trick-or-treaters on Halloween, I was devastated.
November my dad’s father passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack, after battling a horrible skin infection caused by poison ivy for almost a year. But no one realized he was so sick. My family is still reeling, obviously my grandma most of all. We all flew out to Texas for a few days. There were over 350 people at his funeral, and my dad gave a really moving eulogy. It’s been a hard couple of months for my family.
December has been crazy busy. I got As in all my classes again, I’m still barely holding onto my 4.0. Christmas was good. Both of my grandmas came to stay with my parents and they all went to NYC without me (thank God). My parents got me an iPod Nano.
Anyway, now you’re all caught up. Tuesday Alex and I are going to LA for a week and then Spring semester starts on the 9th for me. Love you all. Now I want everyone to write one of these for me so I can get caught up on everyone‘s life. :) Happy New Year everyone!
Oh, by the way. What’s everyone’s New Year’s resolution? Mine was going to be to quit smoking, but… yeah right. So I don’t know what now.
