Whoo hah! I got into Madison finally, after several weeks of eager waiting and sleepless nights. Well, maybe not to that extreme, but I am excited that I got in. Last week I went to Las Vegas for spring break. It was a family trip, and you know how family trips are, you can only have so much fun. This is especially true in Vegas, where it is typical to gamble, drink, and promote sex. I didn't expect to accomplish any of the latter, so I decided it would be a good time to try out my new camera and see the sites. That, I did. For the record, if you ever take a trip to Vegas, you can see all you need to see in a day, maybe two unless you're there to party. Then you might want to stay longer. Some good things though were that I got to see the grand illusionist, David Copperfield and I got to preview a future sitcom called "Uncommon Sense" starring Larry Miller. You might know him from "Mad about You", "10 Things I Hate About You", and "Best in Show". If the pilot was successful NBC would probably air it in the fall. The best part about it was that I made 10 bucks off the deal. I went to the Hoover Dam only to find out that it's the most boring tour ever and that the guides don't even make "damn dam" jokes. In fact the Hoover Dam doesn't provide all the electricity to Las Vegas contradicting what most people believe. Only around 5%. That really pissed me off. Here the Hoover Dam is supposed to be some marvel of civil engineering, only to find out that it's just slightly larger than most dams and slightly more powerful. A definite tourist trap in my opinion. As far as the most pathetic thing I've seen on the trip, I would have to give that up to the fresh-across the border Mexicans giving out stripper fliers. They were clearly indicated by their yellow shirts reading, "Strippers directly to you, 902-221-2269". They didn't speak a wink of English, so I guess they developed a technique of slapping their fliers together to get our attention. It didn't work for me, although now I regret not bringing one home for a souvenier. I must also mention that everything in Las Vegas is expensive. A good conversion would be to take a regularly priced item here(in wisconsin) and multiply it by 3. For example, soda there cost $3 compared to a dollar here. A round of drinks for 5 people was $50. A night out at an Italian restaurant, $200 including gratuity. That was the most extreme. And that was basically my trip in a nutshell.
