So... I'm 17, if I'm not mistaken. Additionally, I've been on the Ministry Career track for several years now, and have been planning (eventually, barring death through Ministry drafting) to go into Muggle Relations, an idea which both my parents seem quite keen on. I like Muggle Studies quite a bit, actually, having gone to Muggle primary school, taken the lectures since third year, and made various and sundry trips into their world. I'd really love to work with Muggles later, after Hogwarts... but I can't help but to think that perhaps I don't want to do it through the Ministry.

Yes, it's secure. Yes, I would have already made connexions valuble for a future career. Yes, it would support whatever family I'll have later on quite confortably. The idea of it irks me, however. It's too convienient, and I don't want to go through my job later knowing I got where I did because of my Father.

Is this reasonable? I mean, not to sound like I've got some great plan on the side (I don't), but there's got to be more out there for Muggle Studies, or History, or Runes. I could always become a professor, I suppose, though the teasing from my Housemates would become unbearable after the first four minutes.
