We watched X-Men First Class Friday and Saturday nights. Mainly because I was stuck on my boys Erik and Charles Xavier and even more adoring of Hank. Because erudite science nerds in glasses seriously do it for me. (BTW, doesn't he look a lot like Hank Green of the VlogBrothers?)
Battle scenes? meh. Not my thing. Teen mutants goofing around, and the theme/trope of treating people who are different and gifted as dangerous and bad, and Hank's geeky socializing were what it was all about for me. That and James MacAvoy's lovely wavy brown hair.
Speaking of eye candy, husband was watching Love, Actually yesterday and I kept popping in. Guess what--I mean who--first caught my attention? The incomparable Alan Rickman. Then, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant dancing around the Prime Minister's residence. I don't think I've ever seen a movie with such a high percentage of cute guys, not to mention the lovely brunette who had a thing for the Prime Minister.
Oh, and the interweaving plots had some nice touches.
And of course last night we watched the new Doctor Who.
At first I thought, oh, bleah, no. Amy and Rory on the outs, and the friggin' Daleks again. But Moffatt didn't fumble. The Daleks would have an asylum for insane Daleks. And an "esthetic of hate." Also, I adored Oswin absolutely to bits, and wanted badly for her to be the new Companion. Maybe...is possible (anything is possible with the Doctor). And Rory and Amy's reasons for splitting hurt--and fit.
I still miss River, though.
Today I got some artwork from a talkative and apparently admiring six-year-old at our Quaker meeting: a (rather squished) blue-glitter-glue heart, and a card filled with crayon drawings of hearts. We'd talked last week too, and I guess I struck him as a Grownup Worthy of Refrigerator Art. So it's now got a prominent place on our fridge.
I napped yesterday and today. Isn't that what three-day weekends are for? I have been a responsible grownup person, doing laundry and making the bed and going grocery shopping too.
Talked with

twistedchick tonight, who recommended a delightful denizen of DeviantArt. Among other things, this highly amusing and gifted young woman has an ongoing series in which Sarah from Labyrinth and Christine from Phantom of the Opera live downstairs from their psycho stalker exes, Jareth and the Phantom/Erik. Hop in
for a taste. She has lots of fun with some of Neil Gaiman's works (including Good Omens) and Lord of the Rings too.
Maybe one or two Otakon-lecture posts tomorrow, finally.
