A few thoughts on Independence Day here in the US

Nicely said, Beth. *round of applause* I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on what is different now compared to years ago, yet some people still do not understand how lucky we are to be as free as we are, and especially how lucky we are that we can vote and speak our minds and walk down the street without expecting to be harassed. Well.. I suppose that can depend on where you live in this country, but most of the time we can expect to not be harassed.

It is a privilege that we get to vote and experience the other freedoms that we have, and those can and might be taken away from us some day. I mean, who really knows what the future might bring to us?

I am happy for your reflection of our Independence Day, it has made me happy to remember the things that I can do because of what our forefathers and mothers!! have done for us in the past.

Yet, there really is a lot more to do here in the states, such as what you mentioned, Same Sex Marriages. I hope that some day they will experience what heterosexual couples do or even in California we have Common Law spouses, and they receive the same benefits, but that is all still heterosexual couples.

It still amazes me that women did not even get to vote until the 1920's and blacks were still being oppressed in the 50's and 60's.

I suppose it is baby-steps, but I want giant leaps, yet I suppose it is hard to change the mind's of certain people.

I hope that you and your husband had a wonderful day on this 233rd birthday of our United States.
