I haven't been harassing live journal nearly enough about my research guide because I haven't been working hard enough on it. Instead, I've been reading Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, which is intermittently depressing and hilarious, and moping about my lack of a library job. Today, I took the test for the library technical assistant job. It was at the Simpson Park Community Center, which was good times, and there were 20-30 people there. I was glancing at them as they came in, trying to assess whether or not they looked like competition. There was quite a mix of people, and some of them looked much older and very professional. I was like, "What are you doing people?! Leave!!" Of course, they didn't. I felt communal for a moment, identifying with all of them in our quest for gainful employment. I highly doubt, though, that many of them have a deep yearning to start a library career. I hope not. The test was almost entirely really really really easy, with only a few questions that required deep logical thought. It consisted of mostly really obvious language usage and spelling questions, some reading comprehension, questions to assess interpersonal skills, computational questions, and filing questions. They only require a 70 to merit placement on the list of candidates, so I imagine it will be a long list.

Jason might be leaving for New Orleans tomorrow. Erika's dad called him today to ask him about doing some computer work out there. His company is handling the clearing process after Katrina. Apparently, he wants Jason for a few months, and it would pay really well. Jason says he's not going to move, and he is going to ask if he can fly back and forth. I told him he is going to find himself a Louisiana woman and move to the bayou.
