Hamstar's Noodlebar! That was mildly amusing... especially since I was at a REALLY FUCKING NICE Japanese restaurant this evening, for Nate's graduation, of course. It wasn't as good as Kazoo, but not much is. Atleast the chefs and the proprietress were Japanese and the food was deliciously authentic.
There was some mild frustration when we were in the lobby, waiting for our table. See, the original plan was to go to the hibachi tables for the whole show and food thing. That was all nice and great, but as much as I love Nihon cuisine, I'm not that big a fan of the 'grillwork' that is the mainstay of hibachi stuff. I would have ordered from the regular menu instead of the hibachi one, anyway... Nate would have done the same.
The lady said, that as long as most of the people in our party (of seven) ordered hibachi food, that was okay (which makes sense... why have hibachi if no one orders hibachi?). But, Nate had to bitch and moan about it because he's been a cranky ass the last two weeks due to the stress and anxiety of getting his school affairs in order and going through with the big march across the stage (which we have pictures of and will display soon!). Anyway, he got on his arrogant, listen-to-me-I-know-all kick and I was really annoyed. Everyone was just trying to have a good time and show Nate a good time and all he does is piss and whine about it. That bothered me. I was on edge already, and it didn't help me one bit to have to listen to him nitpick the order of things for the hell of it. I don't care if it's a national holiday in his honor... throwing a tantrum when people are taking you out to an expensive dinner is unacceptable. He's going to have to learn that, or he's going to find himself pretty fucking lonely and not have very many connections to help him through things, isn't he?
Drama aside, we had dinner at the regular tables, which everyone later agreed, was a much better choice. I had a salmon teriyaki bento box (bento is one of my weaknesses, as my mom could agree to), which was excellent. Pat and Mrs. Poulin (Nate's teacher, advocate and tutor) had the same. Josh and Hannah had beef and chicken bento (respectively), Paul had something with spicy mussles, Sal (Nate's father) had teriyaki beef... and Nate had the most expensive thing on the menu... a sushi and sashimi combo which was HUGE. There were about... six or seven pieces of nigiri, a few piles of sashimi slices, two decorative mounds of carrot and daikon, shredded into strips... a mound of pickled pink ginger and a huge wad of wasabi... and this was AFTER the salad and miso soup. He finished it, though.
After, we all had ice cream. Most of them had coconut. Josh had red bean, I had green tea (another weakness that I haven't enjoyed in nearly two years x.x). Nate had a special coconut and red bean ice cream pile and a candle in it for his graduation... he also had to proprietress and one of the chefs come out with a mini gong, which the chef was very liberal with... and congratulated him and joked a bit before having Nate hit the gong himself. He did it lightly the first time, so they insisted he do it again. It was better the second time.
So, all that over and done with... we sat around, talked about rejoicing over the death of Reagan... talked about Japanese food and whatnot... the reasonable prices, considering the quality, quantity and variety of food and the number of people we had with us. Then, we got up and went to a large fireplace in the hibachi room to take group pictures... and then headed out. Nate and I rode in the car with Sal... Hannah and Josh with Mrs. Poulin and Pat and Paul together in the pathfinder.
It was eventful and enjoyable except for the little bit of strife at the beginning of the restaurant experience. Funny thing is, after all the money I dropped yesterday on clothes, I only wore my new outfit to the ceremony... but I will wear it again to Nate's grandparents' anniversary later this month. :D
The kittens are in a new box... a big one that they can't climb out of (which was startin' to be the case with the old one). They have new, clean bedding... which they already peed on, but that's okay, they're still babies. They're growing rapidly and are now wrestling and grooming, a good sign and a nice evolution. They're bonding to me now, and can't stand being fed unless all four of them are in my lap, taking turns altogether at the bottle. I used to just take one out at a time and feed them solo... they hate that.
Anyway, I'mma follow Nate's good example soon and crash. Thank goodness that's over. x.x
