Why is it that, based on 13 years under the tutelage of the public schools, I could give you a 10-minute speech on the geology of Kansas but can't remember ANYTHING about the post-Pangean history of the Continent of Africa, except:
- The Egyptians liked cats
- There were salt mines somewhere at some point (?)
- Europeans shipped off a lot of Africans to the western hemisphere as slaves
- Nelson Mandela was important in ending Apartheid in South Africa, which incidentally encircles a country that might be named Leosotho
