Character name: Max Eisenhardt
Age: 31 (Hella complicated in canon due to some de- and re-aging shenanigans)
Original canon: X-Men Comicverse
Target canon: Hellboy Comicverse
Canon background: The man who would become Magneto was born in 1926 to German Jewish parents. After kristalnacht, his family fled to Poland, ending up in the Warsaw ghetto. While trying to flee farther, they were caught by an einsatzgruppen squad, who executed them and tossed the bodies into a mass grave. By some miracle (perhaps his latent powers, perhaps not), Max survived and dug his way out from under his family's corpses, only to be taken captive by the einsatzgruppen and sent to Auschwitz, where he was put to work as a sonderkommando. He remained here until 1944, when a group of sonderkommando staged a revolt. Taking advantage of the confusion, Max fled with a childhood friend, Magda, a Sinti girl who had also been interred at Auschwitz.
Together, Max and Magda made it to the Ukraine, where they married and had a daughter, Anya. One day, in about 1949, Max-who had taken a job as a construction worker to provide for his family and pay for his own education-'s foreman attempted to cheat him out of his wages. Instinctively, Max hurled a crowbar at the man with his powers, entirely without meaning to. Scared, Max went back to the inn where his family was staying, but the foreman rounded up a frightened mob, who set fire to the inn. Max and Magda got out, but Anya wasn't so lucky. When Max tried to go back into the burning building to rescue his daughter, several men restrained him. The shock of watching his little girl burn to death fully activated Max's powers, and he released an EMP that killed the entire mob (and possibly the rest of the town). Magda, who was shielded from the pulse, was horrified by what her husband had done. She called him a monster and ran; Max would never see her again.
Max (at this time operating under the pseudonym “Erik Lehnsherr”) then headed to the newly-formed nation of Israel, where he worked as an orderly in a hospital for Holocaust survivors. It was there that he met Charles Xavier (who was working as a psychiatrist in the same hospital), and the two became fast friends, despite their differing beliefs on what would happen if, theoretically, superhumans existed. The two of them “came out” to each other as mutants when the Nazi Baron von Strucker attacked. They beat Strucker together, but afterwards went their separate ways.
In Max's case, his “way” was to become a Nazi hunter for the CIA and Mossad, who first gave him the codename “Magneto.” Unfortunately, Max proved uncontrollable, and when he went after a Nazi, Hans Richter of the SS Waffen, without orders from his superiors-who wanted that particular Nazi left alone because he could be of use to them-said superiors invaded his home, killed his girlfriend, and seriously wounded him.
This is what finally caused him to snap. Over the next few years, Magneto prepared himself for an all-out war with humanity. His first public act of terrorism, an attempt to steal nuclear weapons from the Cape Citadel military base, was thwarted by the X-Men in 1962. Since then, Magneto has at various points been a supervillain, dictator, and even the headmaster of the Xavier Institute. But this bio has clearly gone on long enough, and none of that's important to this AU anyhow.
