Well, it seems silly to have a journal and NEVER write in it, so I thought perhaps I would do a Monday update. This might be the only Monday update or it might become a weekly thing. :)
It seems possible that I might even use this as an opportunity to improve my very weak html skills.
Let's see:
This is big.
This is bigger.
This is biggest.

It's funny, I think my first reaction is to say screw them - not necessarily as hard as you can, but as much as seems reasonable - because they're trying to screw you. Now, that seems like it's just an adolescent "hit them back" response, but I think there's more to it than that:
(Note: I feel that this definitely applies for human insurance companies, though I may be wrong in extending it to pet insurance, which I know almost nothing about.)
The thing is, they're assuming that you're trying to screw them out of all you can, that's why they're trying to screw you back (and because they're money-grubbing bastards). It's confrontational and annoying, but if neither of you stoops to actually fighting dirty, then I believe that a modicum of fairness falls out of it.
I think one can make an analogy to our judicial system. There's a big temptation (for me, at least) to think that it would be best if the lawyers and the judge just sat down and talked a case out and came to some sort of agreement. It's the sort of thing that might work in an idealized society, but has major flaws in the real world. I think that an adversarial system, for all its flaws, usually does a pretty good job of arriving at fair conclusions.
Blatant rationalization? Maybe, but more fuel for your fire.
I had another thought. Again, this is extending from human insurance, so the validity is questionable. I believe that the pre-existing conditions exceptions only apply for the first twelve months of coverage. With my current insurance company, if I came in with no insurance and pre-existing diabetes (for example), then after 1 year, they start covering everything like it had just been diagnosed. It seems like that's worth looking into.
I hope Tigris and Euphrates get better soon
Well, it's late. I'm off to return to the arms of a wonderful woman.
