JDramas

(This didn't get posted from Posterous, so I'm copied and pasted)

Hah! I keep forgetting that I can use this nifty tool to post to my LJ from my email :P  I had an entry typed up yesterday but I neglected to post it. So I’m starting over…again.

I switched back to watching JDramas after I finished with Butterfly Lovers. I’m currently watching two - Otomen and Vampire Boy. There may be spoilers but I seriously doubt anyone else on this list is an avid watcher of J-Dramas :P  Maybe Neko but she’s away and I’ll be sure to pass these on when she gets back :P Muahahahahahaa….

Otomen:  It means a man’s man who likes girly things. It centres on Asuka who cuts a kakoii figure as the captain of the Kendo team but he has a secret. He likes to sew, cook and even the colour pink. (He’s even more girly than me!) But when he falls for the new transfer student - Ryo, his secrets are slowly being revealed around her. The side characters - his mom,  Ryo’s dad are great. Especially Tachibana the classmate who keeps spying on Asuka. And yeah, IT IS based on a shoujo manga. After watching the available two episodes, I went off to read the manga.  Read four chapters and stopped. Couldn’t stomach it. It The drama is slightly different from the manga and I really like the actress who plays Ryo. She’s strangely endearing though I confess that she has the potential to look really creepy too. Hahaha.

Vampire Boy: Its CHEESY! Hah. Kuromiya Ruka is a young vampire who has yet to grow his fangs. He is sent off to the human world to find his destined women so that he can drink her blood and attain true immortality. He’s saddled with a happy family that owns a Chinese restaurant and their speciality is GYOZA. (I had to mention this because I’m seriously craving gyoza after watching this show. BADLY craving. I mean, they chant GYOZA! GYOZA! GYOZA! every time the grandfather fries up some gyoza!) Their genkiness is a good contrast to Ruka’s sulleness (and he really is sullen. He’s angsting about finding his destined woman and also the fact that he hates being among humans) He goes to high school and causes a stir among the female population (of course). His homeroom teacher, played by Rosa Kato is an enthusiastic young teacher (and seriously, she’s so nice and gung ho, does a teacher like that really exists?) who is trying hard to get Ruka settled in her class. Ruka does find his destined woman but he is unable to draw her blood….. Well, I watched up to episode 7.  Ep8 is available but I think I will wait till the others are out before I get stuck on an even worst cliffhanger. It is cheesy but enjoyable so far. They could cut down on the brooding but Ruka is not really hard on the eyes (though I nearly keeled over when I found out the actor is 15. Jailbait)  It is pretty hilarious at some points and it suffers from overacting but then a lot of Jdramas do. I have a high tolerance for that sort of thing. I just really don’t get HOW grape juice is a substitute for BLOOD. Really…how?? One of the mysterious of Jdramas :P

As for the other show I’m watching, it needs a whole entry on its own :P Hah.

Till Later.
