Summary: Tobias has an odd dream. Fittingly, it makes no sense. It totally makes no sense on purpose.
A/N: Gah, I need to read these books again, stat. Hopefully the local bookstore will be open again soon, and have those books in stock. Should have gotten some at the library book sale last year, but I was foolish and didn't know which of them to get.
Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
I had that dream again. I was a red-tail hawk, riding the thermals and looking for prey. When I spotted one, I dove.
For some reason, there was a sound of a clock ticking remorselessly away as I flew through the air. And the world shifted.
"What are you doing, boy? Go get me the paper." grumped my uncle, casually backhanding me. I was a teenager, and shuttling back and forth between my aunt and uncle. At least my aunt spent her time in an alcoholic haze. When I went outside to fetch it, I was a hawk again.
Trapped in the yeerk pool, I could only wait and think about what it would be like to be stuck as hawk. My favourite morph. It would almost be better than my human life.
Tick. Tick. Tick. Tick.
And then I woke up in the hayloft.
