It’s not like Shawn believed that she had given up on the things, because he hadn’t. He knew his girlfriend was secretly one of the biggest nerds on the planet and he was fine with that. More then fine actually. He loved to see how her eyes lit up when they walked past the Metro Entertainment shop. She loved wearing her oversized Superman shirt when she slept over at his place. She was a comic book nerd, he knew it, and he loved her for it.

But that did not stop him from being at least a little bit surprised when he saw the handle of a shopping bag, hidden inconspicuously between her blue sweater and PJ bottoms in her drawer in the dresser in his room. He had just finished some laundry, and had some of her shirts, when he found it. He pulled the bag out, and looked inside. There, wrapped in a plastic cover, was a comic book . A Superman comic book. He guessed it was a first edition, since she usually took out the comics, but left the expensive, valuable ones in the cover. He noticed the receipt at the bottom of the bag, and picked it up. He quirked an eyebrow when he looked at the numbers on the small piece of paper.

“Hey babe?” Shawn called out down the hall to the living room, where his girlfriend was currently sitting on the couch, reading a book.

“Yeah?” she replied, not getting up. Shawn walked down the hall, staring at the receipt.

“Mind explaining something I just found?”

“What…did you find?” Juliet asked, a sudden quirk of fear starting in her stomach. Shit, he didn’t find the…dammit.

“Well, I was putting away the laundry just now, and I had a couple of your shirts washed. You know, the red one with the blueberry stain and the green one. And I found a bag in your drawer…” He came and sat down next to her on the couch. Juliet eyed him, and put a bookmark in her book, before setting it down.

“Oh really? What is it that…”

“You spent $400 on a Superman comic book?” Shawn tried his best to hide the look of amusement he was experiencing at the moment.

“ I …that is…I was…” Juliet blushed and snatched the receipt away from him.

“You were …?” Juliet was adorable when she was flustered, and he couldn’t help himself.

“Okay okay! I know! I’m sorry! I was having a bidding war for the comic on eBay with this little 15 year old from Milwaukie , and it was originally only $50. And then this kid kept bidding higher and higher, and I really really wanted the comic. And that kid was such a punk, all smug and thinking he could win. I almost asked my friend in the FBI to e-mail him and tell him he’d been accused of treason against the U.S. and…oh don’t look at me like that!” Shawn’s expression of shock and amusement was very evident by this time, as he listened to the tale his girlfriend was telling. “ Anyway, I won, obviously. I had the comic sent to the Metro Entertainment store so I could pick it up there.”

“Why?”

“Shawn, I just finished explaining…”

“No, I mean why did you have it sent to the Metro shop instead of to your place, or here, or even to the station?” He couldn’t help teasing her. This was too amusing to not take advantage of .

“Because I…I didn’t want you finding the receipt and finding out I had spent almost my entire month of a paycheck to buy a comic book, because I know how ridiculous it sounds …and is.” Juliet crossed her arms over her chest and pouted, clearly more upset than she thought Shawn would be. Shawn couldn’t help the laugh that came out of him at this. Juliet turned towards him and scowled. “Laugh all you want Spencer. It won’t be funny when I make you sleep on the couch in your own apartment tonight.” Shawn stopped laughing, but the look of sheer amusement stayed.

“Look, babe, you shouldn’t be embarrassed. I think it’s cute. I like that you are a comic book nerd. Really.” Juliet frowned, pursed her lips, then looked at him.

“Really really?”

“Yes, really really.”

“Four and a half years ago you made fun of me and Gus for being comic book nerds.” Juliet pointed out.

“ Yes, but I was younger then, and we weren’t dating. I was more exasperated with Gus than I was you.” When Juliet gave a little ‘Hmph!’ Shawn rolled his eyes and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer. “ I love you, you know that right?”

“Yes.” she replied.

“And you love me right?” Shawn asked, nudging her playfully on her side with his hand. He felt her stiff body soften, and the glitter of amusement and love come back into her eyes.

“Yes. I love you. Very much.” She replied, albeit still a bit annoyed.

“Then this is one of those little quirks that we will find out about each other throughout this relationship, that make each other more endearing to each other, and more amusing. It’s all part of the journey.” Juliet smiled and pecked him on the cheek.

“You’re right.” she complied, snuggling closer to him. “So,” she began “ CHiPs marathon?” she asked, grabbing the TV remote.

“You know me well.”

“Damn straight I do.”

“And once again, I love you.”

“I know.”

“And I am proud of you for beating that kid in the auction for the comic book.”

“Thank you.”

The End.
