“Olivia…hello! What’s up?” Rachel asked when she opened her front door to see her sister standing in the hallway .

“Hey Rach, I was wondering if Ella was free to have a girl’s day.” Olivia replied, smiling brightly. Rachel smiled back and nodded.

“Sure. She’d love that. She’s been missing you. It’s been awhile since we’ve seen you around…” Rachel was trying her best not to seem sad or pressing, but Olivia could tell she was upset.

“I know, I’m sorry Rach. Work has been…really hectic. And then there was that incident last week …” Olivia remembered the ground splitting at Harvard. The sounds of students screaming, alarms going off, and the cop cars and ambulances. Their universe was starting to unravel more violently. Peter and Walter have tried to put up a brave front, but she can tell they are both terrified. Astrid, Broyles, even Nina, they are all scared, and rightly so. She neglected , for obvious reasons, not to tell her sister why she disappeared for a week when she was possessed by Bell. Chaos. Things were utter chaos. Which is why, she decided, she wanted to spend time with her family.

“ I know, I’m sorry too Liv. I didn’t mean to be…” Olivia shook her head and pulled her sister into a hug.

“You have every right to be upset with me. I shouldn’t let work keep me away from my family for so long.” she whispered into her ear. Rachel nodded, and pulled away, a smile on her face.

“Hey Ella! Aunt Liv is here to take you out for a girl’s day!” Rachel called down the hallway to the rooms. A shriek of happiness filled the air, and they heard scrambling. A bright eyed, taller than Olivia remembered, Ella ran down the hallway, and hugged her.

“Aunt Liv! It’s so good to see you! Where are you taking me?” Ella asked, her bright eyes looking up at her eagerly.

“ I was ah, thinking the aquarium actually…” another squeal of delight from Ella told her she picked well.

“Well, you two have fun. Don’t get into too much trouble.” Rachel said, smiling. Olivia smiled back and told Ella to get her camera just in case, and a coat. While waiting, she saw a familiar looking deck of cards on the table in the living room. They were the cards Peter had with him that one night a couple of years ago. Distinct, she remembered, because of the peculiar pattern on them. Peter told her he’d gotten the cards at a shop in Iraq the day she came to get him. Rachel looked at her , then where she was looking , and grinned.

“Late birthday present, from Peter. It was really sweet. He also sent a book on card tricks. Ella absolutely loves it, she’s getting quite good.” Olivia couldn’t help the warmth that she felt in her heart. She knew that was Peter’s favorite deck.

“Alright Aunt Liv! Let’s go!” Ella came from her room, and stood there, bouncing on her feet. After saying goodbye to Rachel, and promising to get Ella home in time for dinner, they left. Ella asked her questions the entire trip to the New England Aquarium, and Olivia answered as much as she could, without revealing anything about what was going on with work. She admired Ella’s energy, it seemed like Olivia had less and less these days. Her job was draining her.

“Aunt Liv, did you hear what I just said?” Olivia turned her head to look at her niece, who was currently staring at her, quizzically. Olivia smiled.

“No baby girl, sorry. I spaced out there for a minute. What were you saying?” she replied as she parked the car.

“I was saying that there’s this boy in my class that I think I have a crush on.” Ella gets out of the car , and they walk to the entrance, all the while Ella continuing on with her story about this boy named Patrick who plays pranks on people and gets in trouble, but, much to Ella’s assured surprise, she likes him. She says he is actually a really nice boy, he even shares his lunch with her sometimes, he’s just misunderstood. She has a crush on a trouble making boy who has a secret heart of gold. Now why did that sound so familiar? Olivia smiled when she thought about that.

“So, where to first kiddo?” Olivia asked after they got inside.

“ The Ocean Tank!” Ella already started running in the direction of the place in question, and Olivia followed, laughing. She looked at the fish and animals in the tank ,her face bright and full of wonder. Olivia felt her heart warm, happy to see her happy. This, this right here, was what life was really about. Family.

Ella went from exhibit to exhibit, looking at all the creatures, her child like wonder making her aunt see the entire place in a new light. Ella decided that she liked the penguins the most. “Because they are cute Aunt Liv! And they look like they are wearing tuxedos!”

When Ella asked Olivia if they could please, please, please get ice cream instead of lunch (there was a huge sundae at this shop near the aquarium that Ella swore she would like), Olivia couldn’t resist. This sent her niece into a fit of squeals as she thanked her, dragging Olivia down the sidewalk to the ice cream shop.

How one small child could consume so much ice cream and toppings, Olivia would never know. She watched in awe of her niece as she managed to devour that previously mentioned sundae with a gusto she’d only ever seen with Peter when he hadn’t eaten any food all day. A rather large bowl filled with strawberry ice cream, whipped topping, nuts, cherries, and chocolate sauce, disappeared before Olivia had even gotten half way through her own . This kid was astounding…

“So, what’s next Aunt Liv?” Ella asked, wiping the chocolate sauce off her face.

“ Well, I dunno. Want to go to the park or go get some stuff from the store and make dinner for your mom?” Ella looked pensive, and Olivia couldn’t help but laugh. “C’mon sport, let’s go to the store. You get to pick what we are having for dinner.” Ella brightened and got up , heading towards the door. As Olivia was leaving, she saw a familiar face walk in. Except, it wasn’t him. It couldn’t be…

“Lincoln?” the man turned around, and sure enough, it was him. It was Lincoln Lee. But he was different. His hair was combed and flatter, he had glasses ( the other universe’s Lincoln had perfect 20/20 vision). He wore a suit and a trench coat, with a shiny FBI badge pinned to the lapel.

“Oh, Agent Dunham, hello. You’re voice…is different. Peter told me you had a cold the last time we met. How are Peter and his father doing lately?” So they had met, when Bell was in her. She felt a bit of sadness at this. She had wanted to meet this universe’s Lincoln, but not like this, not after he’d met her and she didn’t know.

“Oh, they are doing well, thank you for asking. Shall I uh…tell them you say hi?” Olivia asked, feeling Ella tug at her coat.

“Yes, that would be nice. Have a good day Agent Dunham.” Lincoln nodded in farewell and went to the counter.

“Aunt Liv, who was that you were talking to in the ice cream shop?” Ella asked as they drove to the store.

“Oh, just a friend of mine from work.” she replied.

“Is he nice?”

“Yes he is.”

“Is he smart?”

“Very.” Olivia said without thinking about it. Of course he was smart, different universe or not, this Lincoln had to be just as brilliant as the other universe’s.

“Cool. He looked like he was.” Ella seemed content for the moment, and leaned back in her chair.

Olivia couldn’t help but feel proud of her niece. She had good judge in character.
