Deathnote

Hrrrrrn that was the greatest ending I've ever seen in my life!

... well, okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration. Not the greatest ending, certainly doesn't compare to watching Wall-E opening night at 2 in the morning and just BAWING MY FUCKING EYEBALLS OUT. I mean JESUS.

But I did just finish Deathnote, the manga, not the anime, and only went in knowing which character dies. I didn't know the circumstances of his death [SERIOUSLYTHATWASSOCOOL] and I had no IDEA about the final scene in the series. And THAT'S what I'm referring to when I talk about the greatest ending ever. Not the crazy twists that happen through half the friggin volume or Light's breakdown or what have you. No, I'm talking about the spirits on the mountain.

All people ever focus on with Deathnote, all I hear anyway, is the Light/L conflict, and that ends half way through the series. Then it goes on to Light/Near or sometimes Mello, and people just generally complaining about Misa, who I don't really have any issues with since she's supposed to be an idiot. [And on that note, what happened to her after Light gets killed? Did she get arrested or locked up? Oh crap, now I wanna know!]

I guess what I loved the most about the final scene of the series was its simplicity. After reading 12 issues of a comics that's nothing but twists and turns and logic and having to constantly keep up with the rules and the people and their role in the whole thing, simple moments are well appreciated. Moment where what's happening are a nice break. These quickly get lost, however, once L and Light come together.

I also liked how it showed this odd contrast to Light that I think very few people considered. While most readers are busy decided whether or not Light is doing the right thing by killing people, very few people stop and consider if he's doing any good for the people he's killing off. There's no way to answer this until the end of the manga of course, when a woman who I'm... assuming is Naomi Misora calls Kira a savior. He was a blessing to all the people he killed, at least, that's what it implied. So that adds a new dimension to that question, is Kira righteous since he is sending these people off to some kind of...sanctuary place thing.

I don't have an answer to that really. I don't think anyone really does. This series is great for making you consider all different angles of the situation and the reader is constantly changing their view point.

.... of course, I could be totally wrong and it turns out that final scene is just a bunch of crazy Kira worshipers in white robes, mourning his death and their leader lady just happens to look like Naomi Misora when actually it's Light's sister or something I don't know half the women in that comic look the same anyway.

Now, I'm not really interested in watching the anime fully, though it is gorgeous, and I don't really care to watch the liveaction remakes and movies unless the opportunity is presented to me. Maybe when I get some free time.

Speaking of free time, holy shit, I have none! I shouldn't even be writing this! Auuuuugh school I hate yooooou TT vTT
