Art Horrors of the Past Part 2: Neopets
When I first found out about Neopets, I was in 4th grade. I was introduced by my friend Daniel and was hooked automatically. I already enjoyed virtual pets video games, like Petz and the Choa mini game in Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and I loved creatures, thanks to my Pokemon obsession. So a site that involved taking care of those crazy creatures? Heck yes!
Let me introduce you to my first account that I got attached to, fruitroll_fan. I still log onto this account occassionally, and it's well over 6 years old. It wasn't my first account, but it was the first one that I became dedicated to. It was also one of my first dips into the world of personas, where I created my Neopets alter ego fruitroll_fan.
She... didn't have much of a personality, or at least, not a unique one. She was a little scatter brained and... well, I guess you could say she's Tohru with battling Neopets. Also, she has blue hair with red highlights. 'nuff said.
So let's introduce you to the Neopets:
This is foxy9211. She is a red Ixi. But my brain didn't want to think that. No, to me, she was a Halloween Ixi. So she looked like this:
... mmmm yeah. ALL of my pets are basic colors and I was never able to afford paintbrushes! Hell, I've been on the site for 6 1/2 years and I have never gotten a random event thing that gave me a paintbrush or anything like that! So like hell I was going to pretend they were different!
But I wasn't done butchering this character, or my others for that matter. It was common around the site to decorate your character in colorful symbols, fur, outfits, etc, and no I'm not talking about buying virtual items with REAL MONEY and putting them on your VIRTUAL PET. No, we had to put our own symbols and clothes on our character. And there were a lot of ANGSTY things around, let me tell you. A lot of the pet pages I visited were full of DEATH and TRAGEDY and all that fun stuff. And for some reason, I LIKED that. And it reflect in the designs, stories, and personalities of my pets. So here you go, this is what I turned Foxy the Ixi into!:
Okay, I mean, this isn't so bad. She was characterized as "goffik" and the symbols just reflect the trend at the time. I mean... it can't get any worse, can it?
... can it?
... what the hell..?
Okay, dude, 10 year old self, what the hell? What's with the mini skirt? The bra? Why is she walking around like a 10 cent slut? Why is she sitting on a random brick wall in the middle of nowhere? What's with the dance floor? Is she a dancer? Is she a goffik goat that plays DDR or something?
... OKAY MOVING ON.
My second pet, and one that I guess serves as a contrast to the depressing chracters, is Bhreana 54 a blue Kacheek, or just called Bre. Or Bri. Or something. He was the only character whose color I didn't try to completely hide. And didn't have a tragic past. Or did he?... Actually I think he had amnesia or something. FUN.
So there wasn't much here to work as there is with already prettified paintbrush adjustments. So instead I gave him a magic staff and some stripes, dots, etc.
OH RIGHT! Here's something else! Motos! Yeah, for some reason I decided to give my pets motos. Foxy's was something about suicide and... not being on earth or some emo bs like that and Bhre's is... just... stupid.

I'm kinda sick right now and feel kinda bad, so I'm actually going to stop the post here and pick it up whenever I can. I'm going to the ranch on Friday so I won't be back until Sunday.
