See, I think this is part of the problem for Jim: he's not used to waiting, and because he's not used to waiting, he can't really tell if he's waiting or just deluding himself. And he doesn't know how to ask the questions, because he's never had to before, and because he's proud, and because he's scared out of his mind that he won't like the answer. To me, the very things that make them such a strong couple - the mutual respect, the different outlooks that lead them to the same goals, and the massive, massive love - are the very things that make it so difficult for them to dance their way together. Because what if they've read it all wrong?
Oh God, I love character analysis (you might have noticed!) and it's always such a thrill to hear that I'm getting the boys right! "Realistic" is the best compliment I could hope for! Thank you so much.

I am waiting. I am waiting and enthralled with that wait...Jim, I believe, is enthralled as well...this is his destiny calling, on a whole different level...and when you watch that fabulous Medical Bay scene in TMP...you know it too...life calls to life, and for Jim, Spock is exactly that. Spock IS life. Jim's life, beyond a shadow of any discernible doubt...

And that's a fantastic way of putting it: "Spock IS life. Jim's life, beyond a shadow of any discernable doubt..." Another reviewer on the Archives was talking about the theme of home in this chapter and it got me thinking about how Jim is basically "home" for Spock. I guess it's another way of saying they are each other's life. I identify more closely with Spock, I suppose, so this idea of finding "home" in another person has a lot of resonance for me. But it comes to the same thing: they are two halves of one whole. *happy sigh*

This analysis made me swoon a little. Just saying. (PS: You should totally write meta. Also, now I want to write a fic in which Kirk has issues after being turned down by Spock because he's never NOT gotten something he's really wanted before, and he's powerless to do anything about it, and it screws with his confidence).

I... may have tried, very unsuccessfully, to write meta in the past. I can't compete with the awesomeness of the meta-writing greats, though. They blow my mind on a regular basis. But I kind of like to think of my writing as "meta-by-fic"! XD

In other news, I think meta-by-fic is the perfect descriptor for meticulously canon-adherent works. *nods sagely*

Why, yes; yes, I am happy. I am extremely happy to hear this! Particularly the part where I was delighted to note that I'm not the only writer on LJ whose entire life has been eaten by Trek-fic... Am very much looking forward to reading this!
