Remember about two months ago when I pledged to do at least one Awesome Lady a week? Yeah, didn't happen. But I found myself with some free time, so here's day 2, just because I remembered I was doing this.
Day Two: Favorite Female Supporting Character
Tara Maclay
There's just so much to work through. Trust has to be built again on both sides. You have to learn if - if we're even the same people we were. If you can fit in each others lives. It's a long and important process, and can we just skip it? C-Can you just be kissing me now?
Here’s to the nice characters. Not everyone can be a HBIC, sometimes we need someone to be mothering and comforting rather than fierce. This is Tara: the one person Buffy can confess her relationship with Spike to, the person Buffy begs for understanding. This is the person who’s always there to mother Dawn, as two outsiders from the core Scooby gang they both replace each other’s missing family members, and Tara is the only one who doesn’t lose track of Dawn during the worst parts of season 6. This ability to make others feel valued is something unique to Tara; maybe it’s the comforting mother goddess side to her, but she always makes whomever she’s interacting with feel listened to and understood. Fierce women don’t always do that; they’re too busy busting balls and being fierce to really listen. I know, it’s hard to hear over the sound of how awesome they are, but the not-so-fierce characters like Tara do have their spot in the fictional universes of television.
Pity she was friged, her entire story subsumed by Willow’s arcs.
For the definitive essay on Tara and why she is so wonderful, please see

essay on the topic. It says everything I want to say about Tara, but with more thought and conviction than I could muster.
Dawn Summers
No one has an older sister who's a Slayer. People wouldn't be so crazy about her if they had to live in the same house with her every single day. Everybody cares what she thinks, just 'cause she can do backflips and stuff. Like that's such a crucial job skill in the real world!
Dawnie is one of my favorite characters, period. I’ll be going more in depth as to why I am such a staunch Dawn fan on Day 22, if I ever get there.
