eilonwydreams I admit, I'm sick of winter now--the holidays are over, my birthday is come and gone, I doubt we'll get a "real snow"--and so now I can only look forward to an endless string of cold days. I want spring! However--and this is a big plus--I am entranced by the light of late winter, as it brightens toward spring. I see particular blues and pinks at this time of year, cool, icy colors. I was overcome by the beauty of the evening the other night, and managed to snap a few pictures through the window before the light totally slipped away.
The stark trees of winter stop little of the light of ending days, and the sides of buildings become giant bright pools broken only by the shadows of branches. The winter trees also reveal what is normally hidden: From my window at work, I have sighted a hawk perched in a tree hundreds of feet away simply by the midday sun reflecting off its breast, like a spy signaling from a lonely shoal.
These are quite lovely silver linings.
