Government offices are smelly

Well I am one step away from having my Medicaid set up, though I have my first doctor's appointment next Tuesday!! :) I am relieved at getting most of what I need to, done. But at the same time truly terrified. People have been telling me horror stories about the first doctor visit, how much blood they take for tests and junk. Everyone that knows me well enough knows that it's not doctors that bother me, it's needles. I have a completely illogical fear of needles. Oh folks laugh and say, "Well you're just gonna have to get over that" like I can leave it at home. Yeah, no it doesn't work that way. I have steeled myself against the fear every time I am getting a shot or having blood taken etc, and it does not work. My heart beats faster, I get the shakes, and I can't help but cry. It takes a lot to make me cry, and I am just powerless to stop the tears when I am about to get stuck with a needle. Except for my piercings, although those weren't putting something into/taking something out of my bloodstream.

So Cheston is going with me to try and keep me from having a coronary. He's good at explaining to doctor types that the best thing to do is not talk about it, and do what they're doing as quickly as possible, because they seem to want to try and tell me that it's not going to hurt yak yak yak. I *know* it's not going to hurt. It's not the hurt that scares me (obviously since I'm rather psyched about childbirth). It's just... something about the needle itself, I can't describe what exactly.

He's still keeping pace with the weekly developments. I think he just wants to know exactly how far along I am, and see an ultrasound. It's still not quite real to both of us, since I've only gained 5 lbs. I can't wait to get this appointment over with.
