Spotted this little item on Twitter and found my jaw dropping in disbelief. Now, however, I find myself feeling cynical and not really surprised after all.
http://bit.ly/Jnn56f All I can think is, Jo Rowling made such a huge stink with that nasty lawsuit against Steve Vander Ark's publisher several years ago, stopping him from putting into print form the very HP Lexicon that she herself praised for years in its online form, even going so far as to say that SHE used it as a reference when she forgot a detail from one of the books. And the basis of the lawsuit - a really big part of it - was that supposedly, she planned to publish a very similar sort of encyclopedia volume, and his doing it circumvented her right to do it herself.
Now, apparently, she "has no firm plans" to publish such a volume after all. Quite frankly, I think that what she's done really sucks. Not only did she drag Vander Ark's publisher (and indirectly, Vander Ark himself) through a mean-spirited and completely pointless lawsuit, but now she has also disappointed her many fans by turning around and backing out of the promised project herself.
I realize that my feelings on this might be controversial and there are bound to be some who will disagree with me, but I really needed to vent on this one!
