Yes, we will! Hard to believe, isn't it?! This one is really, really the final one. After a decade, it is strange to realize this.
I'm very glad that this challenge caught your eye. Lack of motivation is a tough one to overcome. The nature of this fest is a bit different, I think. That's what really appealed to me. I had been wishing for another Reverse Challenge, because I had so much fun with that last summer, and then this one came along. And I LOVE that we have a whole three months to get the writing done. I was absolutely crazed, both for the RC and the recent dmhgficexchange, with only about 6 weeks to get my fic finished!
:-) Don't you be a stranger either! I'm definitely around. We can chat. That would be nice! Oh, and btw-- must thank you for something you gave me without realizing it: that absolutely scrumptious pic of Tom reclining on a couch wearing that navy blue jacket, shirt and trousers, with the sexiest, most smoldering expression on his beautiful face. Carol (mister_otter) sent it to me, and it's become the perfect image of Wolf!Draco for my challenge fic! I've got it on my desktop for inspiration!
Thanks for those great pics! They really bring it all home to me, the finality of it all and how much a part of my life all this has been for years, beginning with reading Sorcerer's Stone to my kids when they were eight and twelve a decade ago! Also, seeing the pics of Snape and Fred reminds me of the heartbreak of their deaths in the final part of the book, and what we have in store with DH2.
Oh yeah, Tom is SO hot! He's getting handsomer and more sexy with every passing year!
Are you getting tougher and more critical of your work, and therefore you post less of it these days? For me, as time passes, I feel far more exacting in my standards and so it is more of an effort to produce something I feel really proud of. I do a lot more crafting now. I feel like writing for the fandom has really been an invaluable tutorial in fiction writing.
I feel the way you do about the actors in the films. I think maybe British actors have a different ethic than American ones. There's a sense of teamwork here, and pride in the product, that I doubt would exist if the films were being made in this country.
I didn't see the Empire Magazine Potter issue, no. I'd love to though! Please do send me the picture if you can!
What a great idea, making the scrapbook! Brilliant! And now I have to go find the HP Film Wizardry book, or both of them, I should say! They sound amazing, and definitely something a real fan should own, especially now that the series is coming to an end.
Yup, I will definitely go see Tom's new film. If for no other reason than he's in it! I make no apologies about that either! lol Wish I could have seen him when he was here in NYC recently, for Comic Con. I was actually in Manhattan that same day, and I had no idea he was here!
I am just like you when I read other people's fics. There were a number of them in the dmhgficexchange that were rife with mistakes. That sort of thing really bugs me! It's so damned sloppy! Actually, when I said "crafting," I meant crafting my written work. But how wonderful that you make jewelry! What sort?
I feel the same-- I am very proud of what I've done, but I am in no way finished. I still have stories to tell. Maybe I'll even get around to writing something totally original one of these days. My family is constantly bugging me to do it, but so far, I'm having too much fun writing within the fandom! Especially our ship, which is just so lovely for so many reasons!
I am really proud of them too! They are the same age, roughly, as my own kids, and they've all grown up before our very eyes. It's really pretty remarkable. I remember reading an article in Newsweek published way back when they had just cast Daniel, Emma and Rupert. The writer speculated on whether they would be kept on to play the older versions of their characters as subsequent films were made. I remember hoping fervently that they would, that the cast would stay intact, and really, apart from Dumbledore, it has. And that casting change was forced upon them, it wasn't Richard Harris's choice to leave. So really, the whole endeavor is an amazing feat. Remarkable.
Thanks for the link to Alan Rickman's lovely and very poignant statement! It must have been a very emotional thing to voice Snape for the very last time! I can't even imagine how any of them would have felt on that final take. What he said was so beautiful and touching.
Did I tell you that my daughter and I saw Daniel on Broadway in both "Equus" and "How to Succeed"? He was bloody AMAZING. He can really sing and dance and he was marvelous beyond my wildest expectations. I think it's so cool that various of the cast members have gone or will be going to see him on stage in the show. I know Emma has already done so, and Tom plans to when he's back here in July, and Alan Rickman as well. (shit, can you imagine being in the audience and finding yourself sitting next to a cast member from HP???? Like Tom, for instance?)
I didn't read all the exchange fics either, though I think I probably read more than you did. Some of them were really very good, though some were just stinkers. I think what happened to having pride in one's work is simply total ignorance of basic punctuation, grammar and spelling rules. I don't know if it's just not taught anymore or what, but it seems we're becoming increasingly illiterate, and I don't think it's confined just to this country either. It's the same in the UK.
Your earrings sound so nice! I'd love to see what your Slytherin-themed ones look like!
I can relate when you talk about revising/rewriting some of your fics. I've finally finished revising BD2! Yay! I posted the last chapter the other day, which freed me up to finally begin posting SC at H&V. I hope I don't thoroughly confuse readers because of the order in which all this has been posted! It has been a semi-schizophrenic experience for me, revising BD2 and then working on new material for SC,which takes place several years before the arrival of Rory and Kieran! The toughest part of it is keeping the characters IN character according to where they are in their lives at any given moment, and that includes how they relate to others in the story, most crucially Draco and his relationship to his father, which is an ever-evolving thing.
I definitely prefer fanfic too! I think what I love most, apart from getting to play in this marvelous 'verse, is the very immediate feedback we get from readers and other writers, who have in many cases become friends. :-)
