Last night I finally bound off the
diagonal openwork lace scarf that I've been working on for a number of months. Yay! All that's left to do is block it, weave in a couple of ends, and possibly add fringe if I decide it needs it. My knitting mentor
zogathon is gone for a few weeks, so I'm going to wait for my first lesson in blocking until she gets back. No new photos until then, since the scarf currently looks very much the same as my previous photo shoot, just a heck of a lot longer.
Meanwhile, I decided to ball up and cast on zog's birthday gift to me --- some really luscious Debbie Bliss Pure Silk in a silver grey color that's going to turn into a lace scarf from Bliss' Pure Silk book. I think I'm going to nickname this one the Minamet scarf, since for former FLTD players the color looks exactly like I imagine the Minamet bloodline. I'm both excited and scared about attempting this when my knitting mentor is away, but really, I just need to deciper one row of a 2-row lace pattern. (The other row is just purling.) I should be able to do that. Right? Right? I'll be picking up a few new techniques in this scarf, for all the pattern is so simple: knitting two together, passing a stitch over, and knitting into the back loop. I found some online knitting videos of these techniques that seem helpful.
Here's a shot of the cast-on and the first row of purling, so you can get a sense of the color. Too bad it doesn't capture the glow of the yarn. You can also see a picture of the scarf in the background:
My other reward for finishing the scarf is that I get to order the materials for my next cross stitch project --- a Christmas stocking for Asher. Right now I'm debating between a couple of different patterns. One is adorable but definitely a kid's stocking (it has a big teddy bear on it); the other one would probably be used longer (it's a toys and games scarf, but not so "kiddy") but I'm not as wild about the pattern. Not sure what I'm going to do, yet.
If anyone wants to offer an opinion, here's the teddy bear stocking:
