Marist Day--The Actual Day

Aug 23, 2008 14:53

So, on Friday 15th of August, 2008, Marist Day (The Kiwiana Way) finally arrived. It went around basically the same way all the other Marist Days, past and future, did and will.

There was a Mass in the morning, like there always is, and everyone was freaking out about it, especially my RE teacher, Mrs. Brebner, who organizes all the Masses, and I respect her a lot for that. Not many people could do just an outstanding thing, and make the Mass amazing.
Anyway, because we had RE last period before Marist Day, we were ordered to blow up balloons (or, some of us were) and the people (of whom I was one of them) who couldn't blow up balloons had to go down to the church and help set up there. Everyone was already in full panic mode.
I pity the people who had the blow up the 250 balloons for the day. Our school colours are blue and gold, so Mrs. B had somehow managed to find 250 ballons in a collection of blue and gold.

And, for a random fact, I didn't know our school colours were that before then. I know, I know. But really, I didn't. It wasn't obvious or anything, not like MAGS' complete blue collection.

Anyway, the morning of MD, some friends and I got to school early (as we always do) and were ordered to go and grab the strings of balloons to hang up on the gate leading out of the school and down to St. Mary's (the church our school goes too, and is only a house down from that entrance/exit). I managed to grab a photo (the only photo of the day, sadly) of my class doing so.

Going from left to right: Erica, Gail, Rebecca, Gina, Kelly (facing backwards), someone-who-didn't-quite-get-into-the-picture and Phoebe.

Anway, after the Mass (in which I nearly fell asleep in, and which was long and boring), we got changed into our costumes and taken to the Gym, while the Year 7's looked uncomfortable and the Year 13's looked stressed. There was Act 1 of 2 Acts of the Year 13 skit, which they put on every year. This one was about sheep taking over New Zealand, and was exceptionally awesome. After Act 1, there was lunch time, which Jacquie and I used to do a Spelling Bee, and then get sausages from the food they were selling. I came second in the Spelling Bee, encase you were wondering.
There was also a petting zoo, with goats and sheeps and sheep dogs, etc. And yes, I do know that the correct term is 'sheep' but sheeps sounds so much better.
They were cute. Really, really cute.

Then there was the second and final Act to the skit, involving the sheep being put back in the fields, beers, farting farmers, a talent quest (in which I was embarrassed for Rebecca, extremely embarrassed) and the teacher's dance, in which they made complete fools of themselves, as teachers do whenever they attempt anything of the sort in front of the whole school.

And then it was over for another year. We went back to our tutor classes, waited for the bell to ring, and then went our separate ways until Monday.

Of course, then it decided to start bucketing down. I had to catch the bus and walk through the unsheltered neighborhood to my house. Yeah, it was fantastic. I danced in the rain, got freaked out looks, and nearly knocked an old lady and young child down.

It was fun, and I congratulate the Year 13's for making Marist Day 2008 better than Marist Day 2007.

I'd also like to comment, totally off the subject, that it didn't take me a month + to post this. World record, anyone?
