The Florida trip stories continue... or begin.

On Friday the 3rd Shilo drove me to the airport. I was kinda amazed how quiet the airport was, but this is Omaha after all and it was around 7:20 in the morning or so. Come to think of it, the Jacksonville airport has never seemed terribly busy to me. Maybe it's just a well-oiled machine.
I'm going to skip ahead a little in the story because my camera that I'd used to take pictures got lost. Don't worry, it was only a disposable camera. I used my 2nd one for our trip to Disney. None of the pictures I've taken will be on here since I haven't finished up the roll so they aren't developed yet. We went shopping for food on Friday night at Wal*Mart, but that was pretty uneventful... and long.

Saturday we all got up late and drove to St. Augustine, FL. This was not my greatest idea. I think we probably drove around for an hour or so looking for parking. We finally found a parking place in a bank's drive thru. I guess everyone sells parking on the weekends. It was mad-scary full of people and it was actually pretty cold. We went to the fort, but got there too late to go inside. Apparently it was named Ft. Marion (or re-named?) after the "Swamp Fox" hero from the Revolutionary War. (Watch the movie, The Patriot.) My camera had a pic of me by the cannons, but, alas, it is no more. Frank got this picture of the fort (all of the pics I'm using are from Frank's digital camera.):

Yes, there are boats. That's just one corner of the fort. I wish we'd gotten a picture of the lighthouse across the bay. It was really nifty looking. As a matter of fact, I wish we'd gone there. We walked around a lot in the little shopping centers and saw the first wooden schoolhouse in the US. It had some scary mannequins with really crappy wigs hanging out of the windows. It also had some ooold wrought iron chains attached to it w/iron rings. I surmised that this was so aliens would not abduct it.

The streets were kinda cute. We stopped in a litttle shop to get hot chocolate for the other 3. I don't like chocolate. There was a girl working there who had an, "Idaho? No, Udaho!" shirt just like Josh Groban's! I was pretty much tickled pink. While the others were in line I noticed a bunch of people outside calling out that they were going after the spanish or something like that. Apparently they were pirates. It was pretty cool to see some live acting stuff going on. My wonderful pictures (because we all know that they would've been great) are lost, but Frank got some pictures of the "pirates" as they went past:

When we went back to Jacksonville we went out to eat at an Irish-style restaurant. This is where we think I may have lost my camera. Come to think of it, I need to get their number and call to see if they may have come across it. It's a long shot, but there's no way I'm going to find it if it got lost in St. Augustine. Unless I knew the name of that shop where we got the hot chocolate. I suppose I could have left it there.

That's all for now. Yay for my project being done! Sorry it took me so long to get started on these.
