Can't help it, I'm on a nakama kick. Excuse my shameless prompt hogging. ---
Luffy relinquished his hat to the island of beasts and declared a two year break from piracy with just one, simple thought driving his decision:
Never again.
He didn't want to abstain from adventure. He didn't want to keep his nakama waiting. He didn't want to stretch his battered heart for months on end, he didn't want to suffer such loneliness. But Luffy had finally understood that unbridled brashness could cause catastrophic consequences, and that, in the grand scheme of things, he was weak, terribly weak.
Never again!
Zoro disappeared... Robin and Chopper and Nami and nooooo no, no
Luffy sucked it up and performed seven thousand push-ups between morsels of elephant meat, as Rayleigh had instructed--up from six thousand push-ups the previous hour. He grunted with the strain.
"Is it hard?" asked Rayleigh, eyes closed, after around three thousand such grunts. He didn't elaborate.
Luffy answered with a brief pause and a single tear.
"Your nakama are always with you, even when they're not," said Rayleigh, with a strangely gruff note of kindness. "When you're all training and sweating and nearly dying for each other, it doesn't matter whether your worlds apart; you're together where it truly matters."
"Saobody," Luffy seethed, eyes focused once more. "Never again!"
He suddenly wrapped his arm around a nearby oak, uprooted it, and restarted the push-ups at double speed with the giant log on his back.
Rayleigh smiled at the sound of the leaves rustling violently and took a swig of his ale. This kid is going to the top, he was convinced.
...Though he should probably have more respect for trees.
"Zehaha, looks like I got a new rival!" Blackbeard laugh as he saw Strawhat Luffy and his crew leave for Sky Island.
He too, started to leave, ignoring the odd stares of men and women after he had suddenly declared that dreams never die.
"Though he ain't like a pirate in the least." He mused to himself. After all what kind of pirate let himself beat up just to prove a point.
Later on, he and his crew met again on the Strawhats way to Sky Island.
"Zehahaha, We lost! They got away!" Blackbeard laughed. He was sort of glad that Strawhat escaped. That way he may get a good opponent. But then he wonders why Strawhat fight those sorry-excuse-for-a-pirates back in Mock Town. To get the treasure back to that old man? Surely no pirate is that noble.
Then he met up with his old Commander. Kid gives a good fight, but like everyone who fights him, he got sucked into the darkness.
Now, he was visiting his old Commander. He was sort-of lucky that Fire-fist came to 'visit' him. It would take longer to capture Strawhat due to riding the Sea Train.
"Zehaha, Commander don't you look down!" He laugh at the chained, wounded man that is chained behind bars.
Ace looks up to his former nakama and glares, his spirit not destroyed despite being beaten to an inch of his life.
"Ah, Commander don't be so rude!" Blackbeard laugh, "You know I met a kid, he has the same spirit as you, bad taste of food, stubbornness and noble to boot!"
Ace just glare at him, though there's a spark of curiosity that always get him to trouble before all this.
Blackbeard laugh, "You know I had him within arm reach one time, that Strawhat Luffy!"
The glare intensify, but there's a glint of fear too. Fear of what Blackbeard will do to his younger brother when he meets him.
Blackbeard grins wickedly, enjoying the look of fear that crossed Fire-fist face. "You know a noble pirate like that can't survive so long in this world" he said, grinning wickedly, "Once I find him..." He made a fist for effect, "You get what I mean right?"
Ace look in horror and Blackbeard laugh at the look.
"Zehaha, don't worry! You get a special seat for the execution! And who knows? Maybe your brother will pull some miracle out of his ass like the Enies Lobby incident though I won't bet on that! The kid's too young, too inexperience and way too noble for a pirate!"
Blackbeard's mocking laughter echo throughout the jail for a long time after he left, constantly reminding Ace of his failure and rash decision.
But Blackbeard forgot one thing.
Whitebeard and Red-Hair are both noble pirates and they lived for quite a long time. And just like those two, the once kid-now-teen wearing Strawhat will grow to be a noble Pirate King.
