I have a number of drabble/ficlets floating around lj and I figure it's about time I collected them on my journal.

Mind Over Matter
Ivankov had a moment of insight - right after Strawhat opened his eyes and just before he opened his mouth to cough up a distressing amount of blood - when the revolutionary knew exactly what Dragon’s son would say, and how it was going to play out.
“Iv…a…chan. I have to… Ace… I need another adrenaline boos-”
“Do not be foolish! The side-effects of another dose of adrenaline will kill you! You are finished, Strawhat, trust Whitebeard to get your brother. You are badly hurt enough as it is!”
“I don’t care! I said… even if it kills me! I’ll save him… no matter what!”
As it had been in Impel Down, as it was on the battleship, reason folded before his considerable will.
Ivankov never really had a choice in the matter.

They have heard all about the man. His fearlessness, his strength, his determination, his compassion. His great heart.
They know less about the boy.
You start with the laugh. The love of everything fun and new and exciting. The inhuman gluttony. The all-encompassing delight in life.
Your audience listens rapt as you spin a story about an idiot and his smile.

“I’m going to go sail on the sea and gather up nakama for a pirate crew.”
“How many?”
“Ten! With a musician! And someone to cook lots of meat.”
“And?”
“And we’re going to be the best crew in the world! And I’ll be the greatest pirate ever! Well… you’ll be good too.”
“Ahaha - and then what will you do?”
“We’re going to have lots of adventures! And I’ll find One Piece and be the Pirate King!”
“And then?”
“And then I’ll give Shanks his hat back, and we’ll have a big party!”
“What kind of party?”
“A great party! With singing! And lots of food! We’ll have all kinds of meat! And takoyaki.”
“Mmmm~”
“And rice balls bigger than your head! And fish! Lots of really big fish! But no milk.”
“That sounds good.”
“Yeah, it will be!”
“…”
“… Your turn now. One day-”
“The whole ocean will be my home. And I’ll sail wherever I want to, whenever I want to…”

Broken Treasure
It hurts.
It isn’t - it isn’t supposed to hurt.
Their adventures are meant to be free and glad and together.
Together. As nakama.
But now, now nothing is right.
Wrong.
Dragging him down, twisting and writhing in his stomach so his eyes burn.
It’s broken. They are. And it hurts like losing. Like drowning.
He has to scream, but he can’t. He’s captain.
The safety of the entire crew... and the ship... rests on his shoulders.
Luffy is not supposed to regret anything, but he feels like he lost a part of his dream with his ship and his sniper.

That was my lunch!
This is Ace and Luffy beating each other up like loving siblings do everywhere.
