Sword Art Online anime

This little cutie joined me recently and is now proudly chilling out on top of my PC. It's a Nendoroid of Asuna from Sword Art Online.

Having seen Good Smile Company bring out lots of Nendoroids and figmas based on this series, I was tempted to check out what all the fuss was about. I watched the whole first season. I wish that I could say I loved it but without spoiling too much, let's just say that certain story decisions made me hate the second half of the anime series.

The series started off with a lot of potential, making you ask yourself 'What would you do if you were trapped in a virtual MMO where death in game means death in real life?'. As a big fan of WoW, I recognized some aspects of its online community in the world of 'Sword Art Online'. Some people show respect and kindness to other players whereas others are basically complete jerks. Whilst the secondary characters don't get much character development, I really did care for the main protagonists, Kirito and Asuna. They were very likable characters and I enjoy watching their journey.

Unfortunately, somewhere halfway through the series, the story telling changes dramatically. IMO it changed for the worst. We see Asuna getting harassed and molested on such a frequent basis that her scenes became incredibly difficult for me to watch. There was one scene involving Asuna that could've come straight out of a hentai flick. It really decreased my enjoyment of the series, which is a real shame 'cause like I said, I thought this series had a lot of potential.

If you have seen it, what did you think of it?
