A couple of months ago, I saw the trailer for this and eagerly awaited its release. It seems that it's not getting great reviews, most complaints being that the story is too preachy/predictable and that one can't relate with the characters.

I don't really agree with either criticism. Is the story predictable? Yes, you could say that. Children movies tend to be fairly predictable as in you know the good guys will win in the end. But I don't mind a predictable plot if it's still an enjoyable one. I don't think it was too preachy on the eco-message either. It felt more like your typical 'good vs evil' story than anything else IMO.

As not being able to relate to the characters, well, they're not the most developed characters (very few animated movies have those) but I did care for them. I'll admit that I even teared up a little in certain scenes and that's something I rarely do with animated movies. Also, whilst I'm not a fan of comic relief animal characters, I did love Mub and Grub. They had me laugh out loud a couple of times.

One of this movie's biggest strong point is its animation tho. The animation in this movie is absolutely GORGEOUS. A real visual treat. Some forest scenes are seriously some of the most impressive CG-scenes I've ever seen.

So to conclude, whilst I can't say that this movie is epic (pun intended), I will say that it was a great movie. It's definitely on my 'Must Buy' list and I look forward to seeing it again in future.
