Hubbert's Peak (work in progress)

Nov 18, 2008 14:20

According to the film The End of Suburbia (which you can watch on YouTube), the world has reached Peak Oil. What is Peak Oil?  According to www.autonomousgeographies.org/glossary, Peak Oil refers to the peak of the entire planet’s oil production.  What does this mean for us homo sapiens? Lots of things, but the big kahuna of them all is that we wont be able to use many of our mechanics once we are out of oil.  You may wonder why we cant just make new machines that dont run on oil.  The problem is that oil is required to build new things.

Its true!
Watch the end of suburbia! its enlightening.
"The greatest misallocation of resources in the history of the world.  America took all of its post-war wealth and invested it in a living arrangement that has no future."(movie)
"Cheap oil is the party we have been enjoying for the past 150 years, and that party is coming to an end within our lifetime..."(movie)
"Scientific conclusion of the best paid, most widely-respected geologists, psysicists, bankers and investors in the world"(lifeaftertheoilcrash)
  the bell curve

the peak of the curve coincides with the point at which 50% of our oil has been depleted.
if the peak were in 2005, then oil production in 2030 will be the same as it was in 1980.
the oil usage in 2030 will be significantly higher than in 1980 for several reasons. (population, industrialization)

Solutions:
