I was looking at the back of my stick of deodorant this morning (a great start to a post :) ) and found the indication, "Ask a doctor before use if you have kidney disease." I thought this was rather odd, and looked up what Aluminum zirconium tetrachlorohydrex gly does to the kidneys.
It's actually just the aluminum, really. Aluminum will build up in kidneys that aren't functioning correctly (or aren't functioning right yet - - the report I found said the majority of the labelling was so that infants and toddlers wouldn't be exposed to the stuff... riiiight.. I think of toddlers whenever I hear kidney disease).
Anyway, this isn't really what I was posting about. That was all a set up for my discovery that anti-perspirants could play a big role in breast cancer. It's on page 14 of
this article if anyone's interested. It has to do with androgens being blocked from exiting the body at the sweat glands. These androgens will then spread around the body, get turned into estrogens, and cause an imbalance of estrogen. Hmmmm. Crazy, eh? The aluminum may also speed along calcification in the breast tissue - - something that is found in a large number of breast cancer patients.
Of course, none of this has been proven; it's just conjecture, but still. It's a little scary.
