The Runaway Bride

Now that my connection - and my life, thank you Christmas - is relatively stable once more, I can actually update this thing. There are a number of things I could discuss, but I'll start with the freshest, most exciting thing in my mind.

Doctor Who, naturally. I liked the Christmas Special much, much more than I feared I would, thank goodness.

  • THE DOCTOR SAID GALLIFREY. Finally. Also, he has GALLIFREYAN CRED THAT SCARES GIANT SPIDER EMPRESSES.

  • TEN GOT SLAPPED. TWICE. I love him sure enough, much as any of the Doctors, but God does he needs it sometimes.

  • SCOOTERS.

  • DONNA IS A YOUNGER JACKIE AND I LOVE HER. I want AU fic where she and the Doctor have adventures before he meets Martha. I would do it but the only Doctor I think I can write is Five and Donna would wreak havoc on my mind.

STILL. THEY ARE CUTE TOGETHER IN A NON-SICKENING WAY YAY. See, Rusty, you can do it!

  • COME WITH ME. NO. RLY? YA RLY. Heh heh heh.

  • GLASSES!

  • A TORCHWOOD REFERENCE THAT WORKED!

  • I LIKED IT BETTER THAN THE CHRISTMAS INVASION THERE I SAID IT.

  • The plot is, ah...falling out of my brain, to be completely honest. It was just a vehicle for a fun romp and some angst, and honestly I don't mind this time because hey, Christmas special and it was fun and I did give a damn.

  • The Rose stuff was...not nearly as obnoxious as I was expecting it to be. Donna kept pushing and pushing, and you can only field that kind of thing for so long. When the Doctor did talk he was restrained and curt - you can see that there's fresh pain there, sure, but it's veiled, not embarrassingly melodramatic like a certain scene on a beach I could mention.

He didn't randomly reminisce at length in a way he's never done before, which was what I was afraid of - if Donna didn't push he wouldn't have said a thing because he does not often confide in people. The rule wasn't broken, just got around. Which is fine, because I think Tennant handled it quite well.

  • Speaking of Tennant. I really liked Ten in this, manic or sombre, and I can tell that Tennant it reigning in the latter a bit and it helps. Besides, that stare, as he watches the Racnoss drown? Chilling. I love ruthless!merciless!ambiguous!Ten. Can he be dead manipulative next please?

I've noticed - the Doctor gives his enemies a chance, yes, but he never clues them in on what might happen if they don't take it.

  • "You can stop now." See, that is what the Doctor needs, and Donna even points it out at the end because she's awesome like that. Someone who will call him on his shit and tell him when he's gone too far. Rose stopped doing that, and it was part of the decline of her character for me.

  • I have a feeling Martha is going to fall somewhere between Rose and Donna - confrontational, willful, but a tad more restrained about it. I can't really tell much from the season three trailer.

There's more but I've got sleep to catch up on.
