Confessions of a Closet Police Fan

It's been a while since I last posted, mainly cause college = no free time. I picked up 3 new records recently: "Some Girls" (Rolling Stones), "Reggatta de Blanc" (The Police), and "Fly By Night" (Rush). My fiance brought me Rush's 2112 the other day, which I've been looking for for the longest time, and he told me that he saw the Stone's "Some Girls" in with a bunch of other albums. Ecstatic, I returned to the Half Price Books where he got my Rush album and brought the three above. I'm proud of these three great finds because they're all pretty rare. Usually the only Police album I've seen is "Synchronicity," which I own along with "Ghost in the Machine"; any Stones album other than "Tattoo You" is hard to find; "Fly By Night" is Rush's 2nd album, after their self-titled debut (which unfortunately was before Neil Peart joined), so it's pretty old ('74). I know '74 doesn't sound all that old, but usually all you can get at Half Price Books are crappy 80s records and a wide selection of Dan Fogleberg albums. (Every time I see one I think of "No Cure for Cancer" and Dennis Leary threatening to sue Fogleberg for making him a wuss. ^_^)

I find that as I've gotten older, I've developed a taste for different kinds of music (as opposed to just the metal and hard rock that saturated my youth). I used to hate disco, dance, and a good bit of "adult contemporary." (Why DO they call it that? Don't teens listen to it, too?) Now I find myself listening to Dance Dance Revolution music regularly and buying Police records at discount prices. I used to refuse to listen to anything with less than two guitars in it, but now I find out that it's not that big of a deal. Granted, most disco still sucks, but now I won't whine about it and complain that it's killing me. What really scares me is that I found out that there's actually a Neil Diamond song that I LIKE. (As a kid, I cringed every time my dad put on "Hot August Night.") Damn you, "Sweet Caroline"!
