Christmas 2007

Dec 26, 2007 09:37

On the car drive here we managed to get lost three times, for three hours because for some reason neither Mat nor Gabe thought it might be a good idea to bring either directions or a map. *Le sigh* We managed to make it eventually and finally dragged ourselves into bed a little after 3:30 in the morning on Christmas Eve. Christmas morning was nice, I got some very sweet presents (such as the scarf I'm wearing) and got to meet Mat's adopted uncle Farid and his grandparents. They're sweethearts.
Mat's cousin Shane (age 2) is pretty much cute beyond belief, and this place (Bear Mountain) is gorgeous. So many hills and rocks/boulders everywhere; Mat referred to them as the "teeth of the world"- a moniker I rather enjoy.
Mat and I bought the His Dark Materials trilogy at Borders and I read The Golden Compass and have started on The Subtle Knife. I thought The Golden Compass was nowhere near as 'controversial' as everyone's been claiming and didn't really understand the fuss until I started The Subtle Knife - now that book is anti-christianity and anti-church. I really like them.
Everyone here is friendly and caring and really make you feel welcome. Something that I don't think could be said for the last family I was involved with. Oye. Good riddance to that. Anywho, we're waiting for Mat's dad Lars to get here now and we're driving to New Jersey to pick up his sisters and chillin' with them for the day.
Peace, merry late christmas.
