The Economic Stimulus Scam

Feb 19, 2008 09:20

So, when I first heard of this Economic Stimulus rebate plan from the government, I was pretty impressed.  I had read that this was the governments way of saying, 'We're sorry for the last 4 years of fuckups and high gas prices, so, here's some money.'

If you're wondering how it works, it basically works like this. Individuals who filed their taxes this year of at least $3,000, will get between $300 to $600 back from the government.  If you filed as a couple, meaning you're married, you will get back between $600 and $1,200.  If you have children, the government pays out $300 extra for each child.

That's when I first heard of it.  Now, it's being called the Economic Stimulus Rebate. Now, let's study the name.  Economic - well that describes the economy, which is crap right now. It's hard as hell to find jobs, the housing market is in the garbage, and we're in the biggest recession in US history.
Stimulus - Basically, it's a boost.
So, what they're really saying is this is an Economic Boost Rebate.  We'll give you the money back, but you should spend it to boost the economy again!  So, buy that 54 inch flat panel HDTV, put a down payment on that new SUV, buy yourself an iPod!

What's my point in all this?  My point, people, is that when you get the rebate do one of two things with it. Either A) Save it.  Or B) Put it to a good use that's going to last you a long time.  Don't give in to the capitalist regime.  If you're going to buy something, buy something worthwhile.  Buy some new clothes(And not designer shit, I'm talking something you're going to actually use), buy groceries, pay your rent or bills.  Do something that's going to be worthwhile in the end.

Fight the capitalist system. Get things that you'll use.

PS- Anyone giving me guff about buying a laptop, bugger off.  In this day and age, computers are more of a need. Especially when everything can be done electronically.  They are more like an appliance.  True, they are yet a luxury, but so is a car.  Could you honestly imagine not having a car to get anyplace?

-That is all.
