Seen in Green Car Congress, the Detroit Free Press is reporting that DaimlerChrysler is actually considering building a US model of the SmartCar as soon as 2007:
There have been some canadian-registered ones seen in Davis Square, too. That's a matter of treaty, not similarity in regulation. (Also, I'm pretty sure Zap is specifically doing California conversion, which is even stricter...)
Can you get a roll-down ramp for your Hummer so that you can stop places and drive out with the Smart car? Or does it not quite fit? ;-) I guess there's not enough vertical clearance in the back, but it could be quite amusing-looking if you could pull it off.

Mine is a wagon, though, not a pickup, so I'd have to use a normal trailer, which would *still* be kind of disturbing...
