Holy crap, guys. The Serial Experiments Lain game
ends with her killing herself. Putting a pistol in her mouth and pulling the trigger. She's fourteen! DDD: Man, the anime is effed up on its own, but this is just. D: And I have no idea how to interpret that in the context of the show. Same characters, different continuity? A sequel? A prequel--? It could be the Wired version of her, in that case? But she pretty much erased the real (real world, I guess.) Lain from existence, so...
Vague philosophical cartoons are too complicated for me. I'm should go play Pokemon or something. :<
Oh hey, speaking of introspective anime, anyone else out there familiar with Satoshi Kon? I've been meaning to write about Paranoia Agent and Paprika for the past few months. I saw them a while back and was blown away, particularly with Paranoia Agent. :O And the music he uses is so amazing! I need to see if Susumu Hirasawa's other works are as good as the sountracks for those two. I have to find a way to see more of Kon's stuff, since it seems like he's an exception to my inexplicable "terrible 90s anime was better" prejudice.
Ah, here: the song that opens Paprika:
Mediational Field. And he does such a good job of incorporating the same themes through the entire film, no matter what's needed. Check out
Chaser, which is such a broken song. ...and then here's
Parade (Instrumental) which makes me cry inside because aaaaaaa this song is terrifying. And I'll stop now. IT HAS BEEN A LONG TIME SINCE I DROPPED THOUSANDS OF LINKS ON MY FLIST OKAY? I KIND OF MISS IT.
