Back to work tomorrow...

May 04, 2010 20:31

I've been out since March 24th. I can't believe it's been 7 weeks. I still have pain and tightness, so I'll be on reduced hours and restricted duty. Schedule is 8:00 until 12:00.

In the meantime, we've been sorting out stuff around the house. Some of it's been sold, and some of it's been put back into commission. Yesterday, the kitchen table I've been wanting to get rid of for some time was sold and the Conant Ball table we bought a few years ago has been sanded and refinished. It's a much better fit because we can remove leaves to open up the space as needed.

Another project on the very near horizon is getting lighting for upper cabinet here:

And while sorting out the stuff in the livingroom, we pulled this chair up from the basement, where it's been since we moved back in a year ago February. The chair that usually sits here is at the upholsterer's getting new covers, which it's needed since the fire:

Nothing else to report. Just plugging away. We spent the better part of today cleaning up after a dinner party on Sunday, which during a water emergency (boil water order) was quite challenging. The emergency really brought out the worst in people. People were going to the supermarket, filling their carts with all sorts of bottled water, like it was the end of the world. We still had running water, the only thing you couldn't do with it was put it in your mouth. Several towns and cities were giving away cases of it to their residents, and the amount of cars lined up to get some were incredible. Again, you could boil the water and it would be fine. Yet people were coming in from other towns, and when asked to produce proof of residency, they'd start yelling, challenging the town workers. It was absolutely bizarre. At Shaw's, there was a fist fight over the last 2.5 gallon jug, and the same thing happened at Stop 'n Shop, with an employee getting punched by a customer when he got in the way of his swinging at another customer. Makes you wonder what would happen in the event of a real emergency, something with life or death consequences.

Facebook eats up a lot of my blogging/journal'ing time these days. My head isn't in writing just now, but my mind has been quite active. It's incredible how different I think and feel when I'm away from work. It's almost as though I've been de-programmed. :)
