Here's part 2 of Zac's Neighbors 2 reviews - now mostly coming from the US. He continues the trend set in part 1 and gets a lot of praise. :)

David Ehrlich, IndieWIREWhen last we saw Teddy (Efron), he was fulfilling his destiny as one of those shirtless models outside of an Abercrombie & Fitch. But times have changed a lot more than he has, and ( Read more... )

Did I miss Part 1 because this post says Part 2? Anyway, great reviews!
Fantastic!

I'm tired of Zac being compared to Channing Tatum, though, because 1) he's a different actor and 2) he's better than Channing Tatum. Anyone who says different hasn't seen Paperboy or Me and Orson Wells or 17 Again or Charlie St. Cloud.

Tatum is very good looking; that is all.

If they do a Neighbors 3, I think Teddy should return to school as a grad student and a more responsible, grown-up adult. He and his fiancé rent a house in the neighborhood, and discover that a frat has moved in next door. Teddy is then subjected to the same treatment that he gave others when he was younger (can you say Karma)? He is irritated by their late-night loud music and hollering when he is studying for comps and grading papers. He must call on Seth and Rose's characters to help him get rid of the frat.

In Neighbors XXX Teddy is taken in by his former (female) English professor who sees "potential" in him and gives him private lessons, lol.

I think Channing Tatum is fantastic in Foxcatcher, and he recently worked with Coen Brothers, Quentin Tarantino, Steven Soderbergh... I hope Zac is able to do the same thing

I haven't seen Foxcatcher yet, but what Zac is able to do better than most actors and which many actors can't do is communicate, through his eyes, voice and actions, mixed states of emotion, which are inevitably the result of psychological complexity. Emotions are never pure, although in our world today to have emotions is - if contemporary literature is to be believed - a very rare occurrence and always unfortunate. Indeed, film is the only industry in which characters are still permitted more than superficial, shallow, feelings and thoughts (deep thinking is as rare as emotions in fiction these days) so it is naturally more valuable when actors have this capacity.

I wonder when the tide will turn and literature will once again recognize the humanity in people, and whether I'll be dead by then. Probably. I doubt I'll survive contemporary fiction.

Wow. Makes me want to see it again. I'm glad someone liked it. My rating would be "ho-hum."

But I do agree: the best thing in Neighbors 2 is Zac Efron.

I'm glad Zac is getting good reviews but I hope he doesn't committ to Neighbors 3. I would like to see Zac, Rose and Seth in another project instead.

Considering the box office, I don't think we have to worry about Neighbors 3.

I think Zac will do about everything Seth asks him - it's clear he loves working with him and recognizes that Seth really helped him get a foot into the door with comedy.

I would love to see the 3 of them working together again too but hopefully a bit later and he does a few non-comedy projects first. I think it would be great if Zac could develop a project with Seth in the future (esp how badly received the comedies are where NRW was producing) because I'm sure he could learn a lot from Seth & co and it would also have a much better chance of actually happening.
