I don't mean this to be a dig at Zac at all, but did anyone expect the movie to do well? It seems to cater to a very specific niche and I don't see it having wide appeal outside of his fans and those who like EDM who are willing to give the movie a shot. Plus, I don't think they did themselves a favor by waiting so long to do any sort of meaningful promo. To be honest, I thought the way they handled promo was a bit weird...going to all these cities and hosting screenings. So now, people get to see the movie for free with no way to know if they'll go again and contribute to the box office. Just seems a little odd to me.
Let's be real, the only reason this film got the chance that it did is because Zac is attached to it. And I'm sure the fact that he is closely affiliated with Warner Bros. through his production deal helped secure distribution. Max kept saying the film was made for very little money, I wonder if it will make back its budget, which wouldn't make it a total failure.
I'm sure Zac is disappointed but I think this is more of a passion project for him than anything. It's a shame that it will just give the naysayers and haters more reason to pounce on him, but at least he's got Dirty Grandpa, Mike and Dave, and Neighbors 2 to look forward to.
