Zac Efron's Twitter...

Since people want to vent, I'm making a separate post to keep it centralized. I would also like to state from the start, that as is the norm here, you don't have to agree with someone's comment, you can debate with them even, but you do have to respect them and allow them their opinion ( Read more... )

social media, skip if you don't like debate, @zacefron, essay

I just want to say that this is Twitter we're talking about, i.e the site that kills celebs on a daily and the Trending Topics are basicly ran by fandoms. Now do I like everything they're doing with his Twitter? Absolutely not, I've done better tweets on a drunk night, but I don't think this is something to go overboard on. Basically the real problem is they haven't found a happy medium with his account. Either they don't do enough, or like yesterday they do way to damn much. I think in time they'll find a balance, and honestly the fate of his career doesn't rest in this account working out so can we chill out a bit? I think we can.

Social media does really have a huge impact on celebrities' careers. See what happened to Amanda Bynes after she got a twitter? It is a big deal, especially right now when he's at a really transitional point in his career and this could really help determine whether people take him seriously or not.

It is the determining factor of his career? Of course not. But it does matter. Part of what Zac really has going for him is he has a great image, and a good reputation as a nice, likeable human being and to see someone running his twitter in such a sloppy and inane way is really frustrating.

Amanda was a completely different situation but I see your point. Still the Twitter in itself isn't that bad, sloppy yes but still not that bad. My only problem was it came off has a young fan was tweeting for him after a while, and I didn't really need the 30 extra people following me out of no where asking me to help them get followed lol. Honestly what happened yesterday wasn't damaging, it was just annoying and at the monet I see no need for an uprising against whoever's running his account.

Fair enough, but honestly it will only get worse lol. I think it has the potential to become really bad and unless something changes it could be damaging, which is more what people are upset about I think. That and the spamming lol.

I just think we as fans can be too quick to jump in damage control mode. Like with the condom thing, generally people blew it off and laughed about it. I only really saw hard core fans freaking out saying this could basically be the end of him. Now if this person keeps up the spamming then I say off with their head LOL

I agree that sometimes the Zac fandom can be overreactive (trust me, I've been here a long time and had many a discussion about people freaking out, I'm usually the one telling people to chill out lol) but this time I do think it is warranted. Totally fine if you disagree, but for me it is a problem.

The condom thing was hilarious, I loved it. And sometimes the "hardcore" fans are just insane tbh lol.

lol i love this.

i do think they are trying to find a happy medium. but there are some basic things that should or shouldn't be done. like not twittering in first person. i would say don't follow randoms, don't retwitter fawning fans or encourage begging. and maybe most importantly, do a little research about your subject, their audience, and the existing market.

The first person tweet made me laugh and when I saw them I thought 'I know what you did there', looks like this person wants everyone to think he's Zac so more crazy fans will tweet him. I actually asked who was updating it, if it was Zac or someone from his team but I guess no one will answer me. lol

maybe they'll answer me later or not since they probably can't see nothing more than spam. lol

Well they are following you, so they would see your tweets versus the spam tweets.

I do agree that they need to do some research on him ASAP, but the other stuff I didn't mind I just thought there was too much of it yesterday. Zac has a younger fanbase and it's nice to indulge them every now and gain with a follow, and retweeting the fan pics and quotes was cute. Also the third person tweets made the account feel dull and even awkward on some level so the first person tweeting is somewhat better. Like I said before my only real problem was that it was just too much yesterday and it felt like some 12 year old hacked the account.

That's more or less how I feel.

I said something similar below but since this is something which really bugs me, I hope you don't mind me repeating it here.

The 3rd person POV might be dull but at least it does not impersonate Zac. When they tweet in first person, only a tiny percentage will know it's run by his team. Everyone else will think it's him. And that's the problem to me. That person running his twitter will create a public image of him based on those vapid tweets. She talks like a 16-year-old teenager but it surely doesn't create a professional image of an actor who wants to transition out of this status and be taken serious. That's my main issue with 1st person tweets. People who don't know Zac really well (ie 99.9% of his followers) will believe it's him and think he's boring and obnoxious.

Also, Zac said many times he wants to keep some mystery about him and thinks this is important. Running the twitter in 1st person will totally undermine this.
