No Pants
Since the bebe came a week early, crowy and I have been spending our evenings together alone in the house. This has been uncomfortable for me for one reason only: Pants. Today, I'd had enough and broached the subject with her in my usual manner. "No pants!" I exclaimed. She reluctantly agreed, and I spent the rest of the day without them. It was quite a comfortable evening.
I blew away linux on my laptop, and reinstalled XP. I did this for a variety of reasons, and each and every one of them pissed me off. Where to begin? Because there's no Lotus Notes client for linux, I was using the crippled web access. That could at least get me through the day. But I was notified earlier this week that I'm required to run two discreet Lotus Notes sessions - my employers, and my clients. The client's web access is not turned on. I have a VPN client for linux, OSX, XP, and Solaris - and have been able to get them all to connect. However, my Sprint Air Card linux hack (which causes the Air Card to run at approximately half-speed (still good broadband, but...) won't allow the VPN to tunnel through it. This laptop is my freedom from the office, and it absolutely had to work. How come I can't just get a nice Macbook Pro?
Lastly, I'm running two SameTime connections. "No problem," you think, "Use meanwhile." Yes, you'd think. Now, I don't blame SomeBritInMass entirely, but he refused to troubleshoot my client-side session because I was running on a non-standard operating system and non-standard client! Of course drax0r and I had already done the troubleshooting, and we determined it was on the server side. Only AFTER I installed XP and the 'official' SameTime client did somebritinmass delete and recreate my SameTime account which of course, fixed the problem.
Oh, what burdens. I kept trying to bring up all my windows ala Expose-style with my Beryl Window Manager hotkeys to no avail. XP is so very limiting. At the same time, at least I can now work productively, remotely.
Performed a wget -r on my livejournal site after some alarming news I discovered on swashbucker332's site. It appears most of it has blown over, but lj was breaching their own Terms of Service by actively deleting accounts they felt violated them. A recursive wget ended up being 54MB. I may cron this to run regularly once my new box is colo'd. I pick up the new box tomorrow. I'm quite sure you will all hear the exciting details of my minimalistic Solaris 10 install.
