Well I went to my GP and I got treated like crap. The joint pain is so bad. Motrin isn't helping at all and I showed him that I am hypermobile by putting my thumb to my forearm. He just said: "don't do that."

How am I supposed to show that I'm hypermobile otherwise?

I've been crying in pain for the last two weeks and my GP refuses to give me anything other than Motrin because, and I quote: "you shouldn't be on any controlled substances. I don't want you taking medication."

I'd understand if I had abused prescriptions in the past or something but I've only been on painkillers two times. Once when I broke a bone and the other was post surgery. That's it.

He did say I should see a rheumatologist so that appointment is on March 1st but I am leaving soon to go to urgent care because this pain is wicked and I pray to God that a doctor there knows what Ehlers-Danlos is or can recognize hypermobility.

The other doctor I saw, the one who suggested Marfan's at least let me show off my hypermobility so that he can get a better understanding of what is going on with me.

OK I looked it up and Motrin is ibuprofen. It only started to work for me when I was on the Ami. Could you get a new GP or transfer to another one in the same practice? Because not only is he incompetent but the statement "you shouldn't be on any controlled substances. I don't want you taking medication" is like bwuh? Did you ask him why?

I don't know what urgent care is, but if it's the same as A&E here they won't help you. Although I think A&E is called ER there so maybe you have another midway service we don't. What type of pain is it? Do you think your joints are subluxing/dislocating, or is it a throbbing pain? If it's throbbing you could also have osteoarthritis or fibromyalgia. You definitely need to go on something like Amitriptyline ASAP; I don't see what your GP's issue is with that as it's such a low dose that's required and it's very regularly diagnosed for a variety of issues http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amitriptyline

Urgent Care is like the ER but a step down from that. They have diagnostic services and can treat almost anything the ER can. It's used for times when you need to see a doctor right away but you don't need emergency services. An example would be someone who has a broken bone and needs an x-ray and a cast. The ER could do that, but so can an Urgent Care center. If someone is having a heart attack, they'd go to the ER because they need care ASAP.

It's very hard for me to describe the pain, but I will try the best I can to express it. It is like a deep, horrible ache. Kind of like growing pains but multiplied by a hundred.

It could be subluxation. Maybe that's what all the popping is about. Like when I move the same joint more than once, it'll pop a few times.

Hi, how are you today? Any joy at Urgent Care? Have you looked into changing GP? The pain could be subluxation but have a look at fibromyalgia online and see if your symptoms fit.

Aw, thank you for asking, that's very sweet of you.

I was able to get Vicodin from Urgent Care. The weird thing is that it takes a very long time to kick in. My sister said 20 minutes but for me, it's more like an hour. When it does kick in though, it really helps the pain.

I probably will change my GP. I don't like the way I was treated yesterday and I have had problems with him in the past getting simple things like antibiotics. I also have Interstitial Cystitis but my GP says I can't take anything for it, that it's stress, so I take Cystex during flare ups, which help.

I will look up Fibro. I have a rheumatology appointment on Friday, any helpful advice? I was supposed to see another doctor on March 1st but he does not take my insurance anymore so at least I was able to get an earlier appointment with a different doctor.

I'm really glad you're getting some pain relief, it's awful when you get in a pain cycle. Definitely change your GP, he sounds a total fruit loop. As for advice, maybe a couple print-outs of symptoms/Beighton scoring system from EDS websites?

That's a good idea. I think I'll do that. A rheumatologist SHOULD know what EDS or hypermobility is, but I guess you never know.
