Roderick had closed his beloved laptop with a slam, and had only realised it as he stormed his way down the stairs. It was better he burn off most of his foul temper before meeting his new roommate in person. It was easy to lie about your mood over the internet, but face-to-face was a lot different. He had hoped to get away with not having a roommate at all, and although he had braced himself for when he did end up with one, he was not prepared for a foreigner. And one he had underestimated with English skills too. It was that which made him close the laptop lid more harshly than intended.
He stopped once he got outside and massaged his temple, letting his brother's last words to him spring into his mind: 'Colonel, you need to be nice to people'.
'Be nice'. He thought, 'be nice. I have to be nice. Civil, at least'. Once this was drilled into his head, he looked up and searched for his new roommate.
