Help!

so i have a computer problem.......on memorial day i got some new brains and guts for my computer (aka a new MP, processor, vid card, and memory) and successfully hooked everything (well almost everything) up and got it to work.

the almost is that i can't seem to get the front usb connectors on my case to work.  i'm pretty sure i have them plugged in properly, but the cables don't match any of the diagrams i've been able to find online, or in the manual.  most everything online is grouped pluggs with 8-10 possible connections, and the spot on the MB has 9 pins....my cables have 4 labeled plugs: + port,  - port  then + in a O and - in a O

i have them plugged into where the manual says the + and - should plug into (and like an idiot i didn't take note of how they were plugged in previously)

the MB is a msi 770-c45 but i don't know the case manufacturer (it's ladyofdragons old case) i'll see if i can find out what that is.....

i've had it suggested that it's a bios setting, but everything seems correct, and i can't find a setting specifically for the front ports.  the back ports are directly plugged into the MB and were pre-installed, so they aren't an issue and work fine.

any help or suggestions are really really welcome, as i'm reaching the point of annoyance (it's still got a ways to go though, since everything else works fine)
