Worth It

1.)
God, I miss the poetry
I miss it with all my fingers and toes
all my tongues
and layers of skin cells.
Is there a heaven
where all the poems that could have been written
go to spend eternity,
go to complete one another
and forgive people like me?

2.)
God, there is so much poetry in you
and I want you to stop taking it out on yourself
and start taking it out on paper.
I want that more than I want anything.

3.)
I, too, once had little celebrations
alone
but it was ok
little celebrations celebrating a new love
I was finding for myself
a new respect I was creating
a new discipline
to keep the sharpness off my skin.
One day at a time.

4.)
Time will take itself away
no time
at all
before that.
Remember what is joyful now.

5.)
God, no pain is as complete
as watching another in pain.
That pain takes the trophy,
the prize,
that pain squeezes shut my eyes
and drives me to pray
for the first time in weeks.
Yours.

6.)
Yes,
You.

7.)
The smallness of the most powerful force
overwhelms me
just as I lose its potential in the haystack.
That is love.

8.)
Yesterday,
I looked at the sky
and I kid you not,
I saw it's blueness in a bluer hue
than ever I imagined possible.
And my breath was gone a moment.
So remember,
there are surprises yet to come
(you cannot even imagine)
and they are worth it,
yes.
