tori goodness

I haven't updated in a while (I wonder how many lj entries start out like that? I am so not unique, gosh! ;) ) but I had a cool weekend, so I thought I would write about it while I had a few minutes of free time at work.

So, Tori is doing this book signing tour (promoting Piece by Piece, her new book, duh) and was coming to the BU bookstore on friday. A friend, S (who is also my co-worker) and I are going to see her at the orpheum on April 12th and S got 2nd row center so I have been looking forward to that and was going to opt not to go to the signing, since I assumed it would be mass chaos, toriphiles sleeping outside in kenmore square. That scene alone was frightening to imagine. But S went down after work at noon on friday to check out the scene and luckily all you had to do was get your name on the list (200 was the maximum) and then show up at 4 to get your place in line. So S gets both of our names on the list, but a little problem arises. I get out of work at 4 and wouldn't make it to kenmore until like 15-20 minutes later. Soooo, I call M, who has the day off, and asks if she would come to my office, get my ID since it is my name on the list and she gets to the bookstore by 3:45. It turned out that you just got into line at 4 and they didn't check IDs until like 5 or so. It was pretty well organized but started 30 minutes late. We were about halfway in the line, so we waited a little over an hour and then it was our turn. It was unlike any other signing I have been to since Tori wasn't seated behind a table, instead she was standing and wow she was tiny. I have seen her in concert probably 7 times, but she is so small! I would say like 5'2" or so and so thin. I went first of our group of 3 and she asked my name, which I told her and I asked her for a hug which was very cool. Then I mumbled something about being a fan for so many years (another one of my unique and creative moments since I am sure she has neverrrr heard that line before, nope I was the first I bet ;) ) and then I decided to use my leo charm. I knew her birthday is on August 22nd, therefore, she is a fellow Leo. This is how the convo went after my brilliant leo ice breaker (this is what I can remember, but the actual convo was a few minutes in length):

Me: So, we are both Leos.
Tori: Yes, I am indeed a Leo.
Me: How do you like it?
Tori: Oh, I love it but sometimes the ego-maniac gets in the way.
Me: I totally know what you mean, it happens to me all the time.
She laughed and continued: There are different types of leos.
Me: Yes, definitely.
Tori: Madonna is one you know.
Me: You, me and Madonna. I think we are different from her, for sure.
Tori: I have never met her, but I don't think she uses her Leo-ness as well as she could. The escalated pride gets in the way.
Tori: You are right. What about your moon signs?
Me: Oh, I have a leo as one of my moon signs and I think Taurus, but I am like 75% leo and I really love it. (this caused her to smile)
Tori: A true leo!
Me: Definitely
Tori: Well, let me have another hug and it was so great meeting you.
Me: Yes, I will see you soon and thanks so much.
She hugged me and then that was it.

I know that it doesn't sound very impressive, but she really was fascinated that I iniated talking about our Leo bond and she was really into it. I was a bit nervous while in line, but felt super comfortable once our common leo-ness was exposed.

So yeah, after all of these years of listening to her, meeting her was a refreshing and rewarding experience.

The lady in line behind us was another story....more about her later....

EDIT:
Yeah, so the woman behind us in line proved to be almost as much of an experience as meeting Tori was, not quite but at least we have her to talk about now. A quick description is that she was all hot topic-ed out, with the infamous black pants with the zippers and strings and such, with a mesh-y shirt (a failed (miserably) attempt at being goth). She had black, thick eyeliner that outlined her eyes so severely that my 18 month old niece could have done a neater job, plus she had extended the liner outside her eyelid for an extra bonus (yeah, realy nice look) plus she had maroon lipstick that was strangely on her lips and beyond! She had black high top converses with purple laces...Drum roll please, the kicker is that she was 34!! Um, I think her hot topic days were sadly passed and became she was a smoker, complete with her smoker's voice and emphazema cough, real sexy, she looked closer to 50. She didn't stop talking once. Some favorite quotes from her:

(talking about Tori)"It is strange to have a best friend for the past 12 years that you have never met." (ummmm wow Tori, are you scared yet?)
"I was a model a few years ago and posed nude for a friend who later put them on the internet." (Oh god no, please get this mental picture out of my head).
"I can look at any situation and turn it into a dirty one." *insert random comment about dildos here*
"I had a mental breakdown a few years ago and only recently got out of it. I now live at home in my parent's basement and love it!" (need I say more?)
"Tori and I had a miscarriage on the same day and both dated an angry Russian. This house (pointing to herself) is like Russia." (Tori, please put out a restraining order against her STAT!!!).
