Heroes: Cautionary Tales

Well, I think Noah said it best:

"Holy ___!"

I absolutely loved this episode!  There were so many wonderful and fascinating happenings that I don't know where to begin.I am working very hard to write a coherent review instead of a steaming pile of squee.

Deep breath.

I'll start with Matt Parkman, since his thread didn't really tangle too much with the others tonight.  The chubby, cuddly police man is demonstrating how it is that absolute power corrupts absolutely.  First he uses Molly for his experiments (You are SO not getting the father of the year award) then he mind-fucks his boss, and he wraps it all up by assaulting Angela Petrelli.  Now, I really didn't think there was anything that could make me feel sorry for that witch, but Matt succeeded.  There she was, trying to do something noble for once in her life - protect that woman and the promise she made to her - and Matt just rips it out of her head.  He must have, because when we see his photo later, the mystery woman has acquired a nametag.  Nasty.  He has no respect for the boundaries of others.

I was going to have a nice little diatribe here about the evil-ness of messing with the free will of others, but I'd rather keep the tone light.  That said, Matt has been presented for so long as Mr. Nice Guy, and now he's so totally not.  It really makes me dislike him.  I mean, if he's willing to manipulate poor little Molly, it's only a matter of time before he's mentally ordering Mohinder to take off his clothes, cook him dinner, and rub his feet.

Hey! Who wrote that?       -Ahem-      Moving on.

The Death of Kaito Nakamura:  I doubt anyone was seriously surprised that Adam was the hooded assassin.  Still, it was hard to watch Hiro discover who the killer was.  I'm sure Hiro will feel horrible and will likely believe that Adam killed him (Kaito) just to punish him (Hiro) for his betrayal.  I am not at all convinced that that was Adam's primary motivation.  It is entirely possible that, as suggested by Angela, Adam is just really pissed at being licked up for thirty years.  God knows I would be.

On the other hand, my reluctance to believe that Adam has been planning his revenge on Hiro for the past 400 years may just stem from the fact that I really, really don't want Adam to be evil.  You see, I like Sylar as evil.  I like Bob and The Company as corporate evil.  I just think that is enough evil.  Couldn't Adam be reformed evil?  I mean, maybe he was a real asshole for a couple hundred years, but couldn't he have gotten over it by now?  Maybe he wants to atone for past sins.  /whining and begging

I don't think there's much hope that this is the way the show is going, but I plan to cling to that little smidge of hope until I'm proven wrong.

My only question about the whole murder is: Why was Kaito surprised that Adam was the one killing the group?  Of all of them I didn't expect you?  That doesn't make sense to me.  I welcome any theories.

West and Noah's Excellent Adventure:  Who would have guessed that super dad and lame-o boyfriend could become buddies so quickly?  West didn't even delay things by demanding an explanation for his kidnapping.  He deserves a pat on the back for that. Way to keep your focus on the task at hand, kid!  I still don't see how he could play a significant role in the long term, but he did a good job tonight.

How cool was Noah when he was interrogating Elle?  That guy is hard core and I love it!  And smart too!  Now Elle, on the other hand, is kind of dumb.  You would think that in the past she must have tried her little trick in the shower, or a swimming pool, or the rain...at least once, but apparently not.  Maybe she's just a slow learner.

I also enjoyed how pissed she was at Bob in the car afterward.  He'd better watch out.  It's never good to have an irrational, angry psycho with deadly powers running around.

Tonight's episode had a nice cohesive Father theme running through it.  We could compare Noah (Would do anything - including give his life - to ensure his daughter's safety), Bob (certainly cares about Elle - after all, he did give up Claire to get her back - but probably doesn't value her mental and emotional well-being as much as her physical well-being and usefulness), and Matt (protects Molly from outside threats, but thinks she's a great guinea pig for his own science experiments).  Mohinder and Matt also have some brief moments alone with their Daddy issues.

Idiot Award:

Mohinder, If you were here I would kick you in the shins.  You shot Noah!  You freaking Shot him in the EYE!  If I were
kroki_refur I would give you the Fabulous Drunk Sam Seal of Disapproval, but I'm not so all you get is another Idiot Award.  Add it to your shelf.  Seriously, you prattle on about morality and doing the right thing all the time, and then you go and shoot Noah in the eye.  Still trusting the freaking Company.  Grrrrrr!  He tried to warn you about them!  Did you listen? No! You never listen until it is too late!  That's why Chandra never bothered telling you anything!

Last Question:  When Noah woke up at the end (loved it, btw)  ...where was he?  Obviously, he had received some healing blood, right?  Did Bob or Mohinder give him some of Claire's?  I can see why Mohinder would want to - to soothe his troubled conscience - but why would Bob permit it?  I mean, Noah would pretty much love to kill Bob and destroy everything he worked for.  Bob has wanted to get Noah out of the way for quite a while.  Why would he bring him back?

Is it even remotely possible that Adam was involved?  We didn't see him and Peter in this episode.  (Well, not in the present, anyway.)  Could he have any reason to save Noah?  Help bring down the Company?  Could he have the knowledge to be in the right place at the right time?
