Steam loli, now in brighter colors! [warning: several large pictures]

May 07, 2014 15:58

I was checking TaoBao shops and I chanced upon some very BRIGHT! steam loli pieces by Classical Puppets. Whether this is awesome or itaaaaa is up to your personal opinion- but I thought that the color itself was novel enough to post. The last Steam thread was in 2012(?) I believe, and I didn't want to necro that.

Enter the realm of PURPLE! )

Oh wow! I love the purple, that's so gorgeous. Having looked at the measurements, as a plus sized lolita I think it's firmly in the Would't Fit For Shit category. Everyone else should buy it though.
I've just bought the Fan Plus Friend clockwork birds one in the grey colour way though, and I think it is ok. However I have only worn it once in quite a casual way, so I haven't really had time to have a proper play with it yet.

It's a shame this one isn't available for custom sizing... especially with such a huge silhouette. It doesn't seem as forgiving in terms of sizing (also, corset lacing threaded through lace- gaah) My heart is set on the Machine Birdcage skirt in brown- if it had a touch of blue or green in the print it would be perfect, but the print is lovely as it is.

How do you find the grey skirt? Is it easy to coordinate, and did you have it custom sized?

I find the grey skirt so far (as I said I haven't had a proper play yet) very easy to co-ordinate as the greater majority of my wardrobe is grey or black, its why I went for that colour way, even though I do slightly like the brown better.
I didn't even know you could have it custom sized! I have about a 36inch waist and 40inch bust and I took a slight gamble and bought the largest standard size. The grey skirt fits me a bit tight done up to the top and perfectly if I leave the top of the zip open half an inch. I also bought the corset with suspenders thing in black and that fits me perfectly. Its a bit of an arse to get on, as it is hooks and eyes, not a proper busk but it is really comfortable once it is on.

I like that better than Wonder Queen

Shh, don't let anyone hear you say that or you'll get the gas :p
Though to be honest I like this print too. I find Wonder Queen's overall design a little... difficult on the eye.

I can't say I'm a fan of any of the other prints, but I really do quite like F+F's 'Machine Birdcage' jsk/op(?); it reminds me a lot of Bioshock Infinite! Anyone else get that vibe- and did anyone else complete the game with a "the hell was that all about" expression?

It's a skirt~ they made two variations of it I think, one with the frill at the bottom and one without. I haven't played Bioshock Infinite, though in my case it reminded me of Steamboy and Last Exile.

Bioshock Infinite appears to have a similar asthetic to Steamboy! Ah, it's a skirt! I think I prefer the version with the frill along the hem- although both are lovely! Really loving the shrug and waistcoat combination though!

I love it too. I'm not sure, it might be their original design! I really like versatile sets like this one, there are so many ways to combine pieces!

As someone who primarily does steampunk lolita, I love the fact that more and more brands are catching wind of this trend. (and thus making it easier for me to buy stuff to coordinate)

Though unfortunately I think that "Steam Band" dress is a huge hot mess. Fleur de Lis, stripes, gears, marching clockwork band members and NEON PURPLE with green (and black, and brown) Holy moley. What were they thinking?! The second dress is a bit better, and I personally love the overdress, but I can see how some people might find it equally as tacky.

I agree, actually I think that if they had put the overdress gold pattern on a simplier purple jsk (with some brown lace and details) they would have made an awesome dress. There are so many good elements but they are badly mixed imo.

I posted sometime ago about F+F combining purple and green (and the result looked like mold/moss, according to the comments) and it was generally panned all around; but to me this falls under 'so tacky I kind of like it'.

Ooh, you dress in Steampunk loli? Would you happen to have a blog where you post your outfits? If you don't mind, I'd very much like to see some steam-inspired coords!

I especially like the f+f skirt and dress (except for the military green). The Classical Puppet design is far too much overloaded for my tastes, but I don't mind the brownxpurple combo. And I wish there was more purple in general!!

I have a friend who is deeply devoted to the color purple; I thought of her immediately when I saw this dress, although she isn't a lolita. I thought there might be more people who are crazy about the color like she is :)
And yes the CP design is very loud. You could be seen from blocks away, I imagine it takes a lot of confidence to wear something like this.
