Lolita Fears / Worries

Apr 10, 2014 17:39

Something I've been thinking about today because of some discussions going on elsewhere was worries or fears in conjunction to lolita. I think a lot of lolita worry about a lot of different things in regards to the fashion, and so I'm curious what things worry you and what you have done to try to lessen those worries (when possible ( Read more... )

-people making fun of me
-people touching me (this already happened, which makes the fear a zillion times worse ;))

Oh my, you've had people just outright touch your frills? That's awful! Have you had that happen in the street, and is it something you've experience more than once?

I hope you have a lovely time at your meet, and you don't meet any rude people who want to touch your clothing!

I've heard of that happening to other lolitas, and I had the same reaction as you. Then it happened to me! >.< I was at a meet, and this woman came up and told me she loved my skirt and asked me if I made it or bought it somewhere. Then she started grabbing it to examine the material and construction, and rather aggressively too... Needless to say, it was very awkward and made me extremely uncomfortable. People don't do that with regular clothes, I wonder why they feel its okay to do that with lolita clothing. So now I can add that worry to my already long list of things to worry about...

Haha, thinking about that experience made me picture a lolita standing in a diorama with a sign posted "Please don't touch the frills." XP

Why did you let her? If someone ever came within my personal space bubble I would politely tell them to not stand so close and if someone outright touched my clothes I would tell them that it's impolite to touch someone's clothing and that they need to stop. I don't think it would ever get to the point where someone would get close enough to me to touch my clothing, though. I mean, you see when people reach for something and if they reached for me I would take their arm with my hand and say "please don't touch me".

I imagine lacemosher was scared and, as she mentioned, incredibly uncomfortable. She didn't "let" the woman touch her clothing, the woman pretty clearly did this without any concern for her comfort and permission.

Yeah, I was pretty much unprepared for it, something like that has never happened to me before. *sigh* The perils of dressing in alternative fashions I suppose...

Lol, like fauness said, I didn't "let" her touch my clothing. XP It happened so fast, I really didn't know how to react (one of those moments where your brain just kind of shuts down). Initially, she was just asking me about the skirt, I had no idea she would go and grab it. Now that its happened already, I'll be prepared to be assertive about these situations.

It's not so much touching my clothes, but thinking that since I am dressed weird my body is like their property to touch or something. At my first meet, we were posing for a group photo and some random dude decided to join in and started hugging me. Which would have been on the low end of acceptable if he had let go after like 10 seconds, but noooooo he just wouldn't let go -_-

Today was great! We saw the royals :). There were only two of us, but it was still pretty fun! And no one even gave me a second glance, so I guess that's good.

Ah, that's horrible! Some people just don't understand personal space it seems. Hopefully it won't happen again!

Oh, how lovely! Did you happen to see Kate? I loved the Jenny Packham dress she wore to the state reception!

Yep! We saw both Kate and William, it was really cool! They were a bit far away, but that couldn't be helped. We met a boy that got to shake hands with both of them!

Oh my god... One time I was at a con and had my badge flipped backwards and stuck behind a waist bow to prevent my name from getting in pictures, and a guy just kind of came up behind me, put his arm around my shoulder, grabbed the badge, and proceeded to read it before I absolutely panicked and snatched it back. I HATE casual contact and people touching me in general so I greatly fear anything like that happening again. As for the end of that story, I guess the creep didn't have enough time to read my name accurately, because he repeated what he thought it said (a boy's name) aloud and just kind of backed away...

... Luckily I live in a rough town...
So everyone is afraid of touching each other.
